UNIT 14: INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS A: READING I. AIMS/OBJECTIVES OF THE LESSON 1. Language focus: - To provide students with some new words and expressions 2. Skills: To develop reading skills: skimming for general ideas, specific ones. 3. Attitudes: - To encourage Ss work in pairs and groups II. PREPARATION 1. Teacher: - Teaching aids: Lesson plan, text book, new words - Teaching method: Communicative language teaching 2. Students: - Read Unit 14– reading at home III. PROCEDURE 1. Class organization (1 minute) 2. Check – up (5 minutes) - Some students revise the use of modal verbs 3. New lesson (35 minutes) Students’ activities Teacher’s activities 1. Before you read Before you read - Read out the words and phrases then check their - Instructs Ss to read the words and meanings phrases in the glossary - Work in groups, find out the name of some international organizations + UN: The united nations + UNICEF: The united nations children’s fund WHO: World Health Organization WWF: World Wildlife Fund - Introduces some new words and The red cross society phrases 2. While you read While you read - Listen to the tape and read the passage for the first time - Plays the tape, asks Ss to listen to Task 1 the tape while reading - Work individually skim the passage, finish task 1 then compare the answer with their partners: - Asks Ss to read out the words 1. dedicated 2. appealed 3. initiated 4. appalled 5. resulted - Calls some of the Ss to do task 1 4. Consolidation (3 minutes) - Words and phrases 5. Homework (1 minute) - Words and phrases
