1.1 Introduction
Digital ICs are ICs dealing with signals restricted
to the extreme limits of zero and some full
amount.
These ICs find use in “true/false” logical
operations and digital computation.
Common convention:
– Logical low (L or ‘0’): 0 V
– Logical high (H or ‘1’): 5 V
Simplest digital IC:
– Logic gate ICs

1.2 Classifications
Based on the integration scale:
– SSI (Small Scale Integration): 2 ÷ <100 transistors
– MSI (Medium SI): 100 ÷ < 1 k
– LSI (Large SI): 1 k ÷ < 10 k
– VLSI (Very LSI): 10 k ÷ < 1 M
– ULSI (Ultra LSI): 1 M÷ ~ 100 M
– SLSI (Super LSI): ~B
Note: The number of transistors in each integration
scale may differ from document to document
