A clinical study was conducted with the objective to isolate and identify the uterine aerobic bacteria in crossbred dairy cows with postpartum subclinical endometritis (SCE). One hundred and ninety four recently calved cows from different organized dairy farms in and around the city of Bangalore were screened for SCE by endometrial cytology using cytobrush technique on 35 day postpartum (dpp) from the cows.

An intrauterine device used by more than 150 millions of women worldwide is one of the most efficient methods of contraception. The aim of the study is to compare the genital tract microbial flora of women prior to and after insertion of IUCD and to find out the relation of microbial flora of removed IUCDs with duration of its use. The study included 40 women who came for IUCD insertion and 80 IUCD users who came for follow up and/or removal of IUCD. High vaginal swabs, endocervical swabs and IUCDs were collected and subjected to Gram staining.

75% of the mortality associated with burn injuries is related to infection The aim of the present study was to identify the bacterial profile of burn wound infection (BWI) in our setting and determine their susceptibility pattern to commonly used antibiotics.This prospective study was conducted over a period of one year in a teaching tertiary care hospital, Chennai. A total of 100 patients with burns of total body surface area (TBSA) of 20% to 40% were included. Three wound swabs on 1st , 4 th and 7th day were collected aseptically and processed.

The Streptococci are Gram-positive spherical bacteria (cocci) that characteristically form pairs and chains during growth. They are widely distributed in nature. Some are members of the normal human flora for e.g. commensal Streptococci of the oral cavity, are common causes of sub-acute bacterial endocarditis, others are associated with important human disease attributable in part to injection by Streptococci, in part to sensitization to them. Streptococcus species is uniformly susceptible to penicillin. But macrolides remains drug of choice for patient allergic to penicillin.

The most common type of dental abscess is a periapical abscess. It has been shown that endodontic infection comprises of a complex mixture of bacterial species. Fungi are oral commensal and causes wide variety of infections in human beings. The aim of this study was to identify species of the genus Candida and various aerobic bacterial species in clinically symptomatic patients having pulp necrosis with chronic endodontic periapical abscess, with radiographic images.

Behçet’s disease (BD) is considered a chronic relapsing multisystem inflammatory disorder. It has a worldwide distribution, but it is more prevalent in Mediterranean countries. Although its etiopathogenesis remains elusive, the most accepted hypothesis is that the excessive inflammatory response is triggered by an infectious agent in a genetically susceptible host. The presence of an increased proportion of certain Bacterial strains in the oral flora and the isolation of a virus in certain BD lesions have led to search on the role of viruses and bacteria in the aetiopathogenesis of BD.

Termite mound is a rich source of nutrients and applied as a fertilizer, thus improving the productivity of soil. The role of termites in increasing the productivity of forest soils depends mainly on the micro flora presents in the gut of termites. The result of the present study revealed that the bacterial population in termite soil ranged from 68.4 – 138.2 X 106 cfu/g sample dry weight.

One of the present situations faced by the aquaculture industry is the presence of infections leading to huge losses. Among the fish pathogens, fungal infections come next only to bacterial infections. Hence the present study was attempted to identify the common fungal flora in the sediments, water and fish (Glossogobius giuris) from Lower Anicut, Tamil Nadu. Results indicate that a total of 18 species belonging to eight genera could be identified.

Impetigo continues to be an important paediatric skin infection. Staphylococcus aureus is the commonest bacteria associated with Impetigo. Drug resistance particularly to first line oral antibiotics is alarmingly high in Staphylococcus aureus. This study aims to find the bacterial isolates causing impetigo and their susceptibility pattern to drugs particularly Mupirocin. This prospective study was done in patients presenting with impetigo to the dermatology OP of a tertiary care hospital for the period of six months from May 2017 to October 2017.
