Terrain corrections for gravity data are a critical concern in rugged topography, because the magnitude of the corrections may be largely relative to the anomalies of interest. That is also important to determine the inner and outer radii beyond which the terrain effect can be neglected.

Gravity data inversion or interpretation requires the removal of the gravitational effects of the a priori known geologic and/or morphologic features within the Earth’s system to model and reveal the remaining signals of the unknown anomalous subsurface density distributions. The Bouguer gravity anomalies reduced by the normal gravitational field of the Earth and the gravitational attraction of the topographic masses above the sea level are frequently used in geophysics for this purpose.

This paper presents a comparative study of two different forward methods such as the space domain method and the frequency domain method. The performance of each method was evaluated on two synthetic models. Finally, the more effective method was applied to calculate Bouguer gravity anomaly in the East Vietnam Sea and adjacent areas using the latest available dataset from the TOPEX mission.

This paper proposes an interpretation of the Bouguer gravity and magnetic anomaly map of the Yozgat Batholith and its surrounding area (north central Anatolia) for determination of crustal and geothermal structures. In the study area, the Moho and Conrad depths based on a relationship between Bouguer gravity anomaly and seismically determined crustal thickness were estimated as 34–39 km and 19.5–21.5 km, respectively.

In the present study, the gravity anomaly is studied using several analysis and processing methods in order to understand and infer its possible sources. Spectral analysis of the anomaly showed that the mass should be buried at a depth of about 4.8 km. The geometry of the mass is forward modelled using the vertical prisms method, which assumes that the mass is a homogeneous layer, represented by separate identical prisms.
