Conventional topology optimization approaches are implemented in an implicit manner with a very large number of design variables, requiring large storage and computation costs. In this study, an explicit topology optimization approach is proposed by moving polygonal morphable voids whose geometry parameters are considered as design variables.

In this paper, source is considered as a single equivalent dipole and genetic algorithm, an efficient and robust optimization method, is proposed to estimate parameters of source. Some improvements are introduced to enhance performance of conventional genetic algorithm.

(BQ) This paper reports an intelligent approach for process modeling and optimization of electric discharge machining (EDM). Physics based process modeling using finite element method (FEM) has been integrated with the soft computing techniques like artificial neural networks (ANN) and genetic algorithm (GA) to improve prediction accuracy of the model with less dependency on the experimental data.

This book is designed to facilitate a thorough understanding of fundamental principles without requiring readers to memorize an excess of confusing technological details. Rather than focusing on techniques for one particular phase of design, it covers the complete design process, from specification to manufacturing

Evolutionary Methods for the Design of Reliable Networks Alice E. Smith and Berna Dengiz Introduction to the Design Problem The problem of how to design a network so that certain constraints are met and one or more objectives are optimized is relevant in many real world applications in telecommunications (Abuali et al., 1994a; Jan et al., 1993; Koh and Lee, 1995; Walters and Smith, 1995), computer networking (Chopra et al., 1984; Pierre et al., 1995), water systems (Savic and Walters, 1995) and oil and gas lines (Goldberg, 1989).

There are many methods for troubleshooting databases. Many people jump straight to a Google search, or run to find the senior DBA who, most likely, has seen this problem before. While these may provide some results, there’s no better solution than tracking down empirical evidence as to the cause of a bottleneck or to the identity of the troublesome transaction. In addition to getting real answers (as opposed to trying other people’s solutions), you gain a much greater understanding of SQL’s inner workings and of how to optimize your database....
