The study determines the predominant hydrogeological controls on salinity distribution and salinization/freshening, proposing conceptual models to explain the different vertical distributions of groundwater salinity at the coastline. An improved understanding of the sources of salinity and the hydrogeological controls will subsequently provide support for the future management of groundwater in the Western Port Basin, and serve as a template for how to unravel complex salinity distributions in coastal aquifers, and their relationships to palaeo- and recent geomorphological histories.

Karl Lagerfeld's significance, contributions and original fashion designs are generated by several interrelated factors: perceptive use of historical antecedents, artistic background, love of art and design and the influence of artists and selected fashion designers. These factors had profound effects which provided a personal conceptual base for his own label, the House of Chanel, Chloe and the Fendi sisters. His various designs for these disparate labels reflect the complexity of Lagerfeld's character and display the adaptability of his individualistic talents.

This project will investigate of the effects of applying scientific modes of analysis to the process of artistic production. Methodologies derived from the disciplines of classification and taxonomy will be used to examine the formal relationships between sculptural objects in respect to their conceptual and actual development. Evolutionary theory will be used as a model in this analysis. The project will investigate the complexity of the system and explore the effect of the intervention of scientific methods on artistic production.

This research project investigates the relationship between music composition, particularly electronic pop, and sound design (the editing/mixing of sound for cinema), with its main focus on Multi-channel (Surround Sound) techniques. It proposes new practices that extend music compositional tools into embracing spatial techniques employed by sound design. My research encompasses both the conceptual development (ie spatial techniques in creating narratives) and the practical issues relating to the production and technology needed for such works.

Adopting a triangulated approach, this thesis consists of three separate but related qualitative studies, the collective objectives of which are to (i) gauge current levels of concern of Australian public universities with rapid intensification of the higher education sector globally; (ii) evaluate strategies developed by universities in response to increasing competition; and (iii) develop a conceptual framework to guide competitive behaviour of universities.

This dissertation addresses calls from both tourism and marketing researchers for a holistic framework and comprehensive examination of the role that the country cue plays in consumer behavior (Josiassen and Harzing 2008; Maheswaran et al. 2013). It provides much needed advancement to both the tourism and marketing research discipline by conceptualizing and empirically examining various pathways through which the country cue manifests in tourists’ and consumers’ behavior.

The thesis studied the development and implementation of the conceptual Continuous Improvement Teamworking (CIT) Model for strategic performance improvement in retail banking operations. The investigation using of a dominant qualitative to a Less-dominant quantitative approach as a mixed-method strategy revealed the importance of the CIT Model realised through the CTIO (Concern-Task-Interaction-Outcome) Problem-Solving Cycle. The CTIO Cycle is a variant form of the traditional Deming-Shewhart PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Action) Cycle.

This thesis investigates the choice behaviour of first year undergraduate students through proposing and testing a conceptual model. The psychological constructs of personal values, motivation, selection criteria, demographic and socioeconomic factors introduced as underlying drivers provide invaluable insight into the pathways of influence and relationships between student types and their preference towards a particular degree program at a particular university.

This research has two main objectives. The first is to examine how PPP operational phase partnership, risk and performance management practices can be improved to achieve better VfM outcomes. This involves developing a generic conceptual integrating model, intended to assist government decision-makers to allocate and make better use of public sector resources during the operational phase of PPPs, that may have significant and / or long-term consequences for achieving strategic objectives using an integrated partnership, risk and performance management approach.

This thesis is divided into six chapters. The current chapter has introduced the thesis. Chapter 2 discusses the background of the institutional features of the Indian IPO market, including the grey market. Chapter 3 (Study 1) introduces an integrated conceptual framework of information sharing, with and without allocation discretion to underwriters. Chapter 4 (Study 2) applies signaling theory in the Indian IPO market setting to understand the effect of the information asymmetry between IPO investors.

Within the urban landscape, the tempo of destruction and redevelopment of our built environment reveals a palimpsest of change. The abandonment of these sites could go unnoticed, often a fleeting moment before destruction, with the next structure then re-cloaking the land. This research project locates itself spatially and conceptually within this pause or transitional state of select sites. It utilises this brief period of time to consider how these sites can offer poetic information and new readings as creative practice, despite their impending obsolescence.

The study "Multi-objective solar building envelope design optimization" includes four main objectives: 1 - To explore the components of a building envelope design optimization framework that would be developed for the conceptual building design phase; 2 - To establish an optimization process for different BIPV application types; 3 - To investigate the optimization algorithms and methods that could be used to optimize building envelope design for BIPV; 4 - To develop and validate an optimization framework to integrate BIPV into the building structure.

The main objective of the study "Role of beliefs and past experience informing resort accommodation purchase behaviour : a study of Australian tourists" is: To segment the tourists using resorts in Australia; to propose a conceptual model which describes the factors that affect the travellers’ choice of resort hotels based on their beliefs along with the effect of past behaviour and; to test the model across the segments using multivariate data analysis techniques.

Doctoral thesis of Philosophy: Healthcare information systems assimilation: the Malaysian experience
This research is qualitative, adopting an exemplar single case study approach with more than one unit of analysis embedded within the case. This research also takes an interpretivist view with the aim of developing concepts, confirming or refuting theory, drawing from specific implications and the contribution of rich insights. A public hospital in Malaysia currently operating with an end-to-end hospital IS/IT was selected as the case to explore the key elements that contribute to the success of assimilating HIS.

This research demonstrates how housing demand can be modelled by using a System Dynamics approach. This modelling concept has been set up, using the root causes which generate housing demand. Causal factors which influence housing demand are collated, and mapped. A model simulating housing demand was developed. Keys to this are demographic, social and economic factors. This model is presented with a view to pursuing new approaches for housing demand modelling.

The thesis investigates the nature of this developmental process by employing a constructivistinterpretive research methodology and using qualitative research methods. The empirical data was drawn from group discussions and face-to-face interviews with two distinct cohorts of women. The first cohort comprised twenty-two participants, of which five were adolescent women aged fourteen to sixteen years. The thesis focused only on examining those women who were financially successful and not others.

By clarifying the mechanism between organisational social capital and social innovativeness of Australian social enterprises, this thesis model contributes to a richer understanding of the organisational social capital theory of innovativeness from a strategic perspective. Further, the rigorous demonstration of the mechanism of developing innovativeness extends the organisational social capital and innovativeness relationship into a new, previously overlooked application area, the social enterprise context.

This thesis provides a first step towards understanding how fear of crime, perceived risk, perceptions of unsafety, and avoidance behavior reciprocally and positively influence each other; and how personal characteristics and community-related factors influence threat of victimization within a nonrecursive frame of reference, laying the groundwork and advancing conceptual foundations upon which threat of victimization can be assessed.

This thesis adopts a systematic and novel approach to evaluating what scholars have written via a comprehensive and technical examination of the literature (articles published between 1988 and 2016 across ten computerized databases). Major articles were systematically reviewed using a machine-based text analysis, Leximancer, revealing which themes pervade the field of scholarship based on what is written.
