Zinc oxide is highly sought after for several applications in biology, optoelectronics, electronics, and sensing. Zinc oxide nanorods exhibit a high exciton binding energy and a wide direct band gap, making them an attractive material for ultraviolet optoelectronic devices in the compound semiconductor field.

This study employs the tight-binding density functional method GFN1-xTB to investigate the structural and electronic properties of TiO2-ZnO and TiO2-ZnO composite materials modified by Li, Na, K, and Fe metals. Computational analyses reveal the formation of weak covalent bonds between the TiO2 and ZnO components within the composite system. Doping TiO2-ZnO with metals induces significant alterations in the electronic structure, particularly in terms of ionization energy and global electrophilic index.

In this study, the Cu-TiO2-SBA-16 photocatalytic materials were successfully prepared by direct hydrothermal synthesis method. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Ultraviolet– Visible Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), N2 adsorption–desorption isotherms, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) methods.

This work demonstrates an AlGaN/GaN high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) with Cr/Graphene ohmic contacts constructed without heat treatment. The Cr/Graphene ohmic contact was fabricated using a spray-coated graphene nanoflakes solution and electron-beamevaporated Cr. This method does not require a high-temperature annealing step in conventional Ti/Al/Ni/Au ohmic contact. It is suggested that the Cr/graphene combination acts similarly to a doped n-type semiconductor in contact with AlGaN/GaN heterostructures, enabling carrier transport to the AlGaN layer.

CuO nanoparticles were synthesized by alcohol-assisted hydrothermal method at various pH values, using sodium hydroxide as a precursor for pH control. The chemical composition, morphological and structural properties of the obtained CuO nanoparticles were investigated by the Raman and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopies, the field-emission scanning electron microscopy, and the X-ray diffraction.

This paper reports on the extraction of microcrystal cellulose from cotton fiber and their application as a reinforcing agent in NR matrix. Microcrystalline cellulose was also grafted with maleic anhydride (MA) so that grafted one can improve interfacial interaction between cellulose and natural rubber. Fillers were incorporated to block natural rubber by two-roll mill dry mixing.

Once entirely the domain of space-borne applications, the effects of high energy charged particles on electronics systems is now also a concern for terrestrial devices. Reconfigurable components such as FPGAs are particularly vulnerable to radiation single event effects (SEU) as they carry a large amount of memory within a relatively small amount of circuit area. This thesis presents a Silicon on Insulator (SOI) based configuration memory system in a radiation hard reconfiguration system.

The aim of this thesis was to investigate and characterise the effect on electron dosimetry that localising different forms of bolus, both approximately tissue equivalent and non tissue equivalent, in a non conventional, although reproducible locations, (ie not on the phantom surface). A series of experiments were derived to compare the differences in beam characteristics between the recognised conventional method of locating bolus on the surface to that of bolus supported by the Low Melting point Attenuator (LMA) Electron insert.

The aim of this thesis is investigate and design a small antenna which can be embedded onto a Polyethylene substrate (used for making roof tiles). The antenna can be used to harvest ambient energy by connecting it to a rectifier. Due to the dimensional constraints of a roof tile as well as the materials used, there are limitations imposed on the antenna size, and thus the radiation efficiency and bandwidth often become a limiting factor in the overall performance of the system.

The objective of this project was to develop \(Ti{O_2}\) based multifunctional substrates through silver decoration, while simultaneously enhancing the photocatalytic performance of \(Ti{O_2}\) in the substrate. Employing Ag nanoparticles introduced additional functionality to the system, namely surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), thus enabling the detection of trace amounts of organic molecules prior to their degradation, all with the same substrate.

This thesis presents the following contributions. First, it is identified that disturbance estimation based networks utilised for compensation possess the same polynomial architectures as signal conditioning anti-windup and their equivalents. Next, an appropriate strategy is identified to integrate disturbance compensation for finite-controlset optimisation schemes via the constraint set rather than the cost function to maintain a simple and elegant problem structure.
