In this study, a surrogate model based on artificial neural networks (ANN) will be established to predict the mechanical behaviors of the plastic Primitive TPMS reinforced beams. Finite element analysis (FEA) simulation results of different numbers of reinforcement layers and volume fractions were adopted as the model data, the robust model have been owing to a hyperparameter tuning investigation.

An approach on the prediction of sound transmission loss for finite clamped composite sandwich plates with foam core is described in the paper. Sandwich plates are treated as being orthotropic and the apparent bending stiffness is calculated for the two principle directions. The apparent bending stiffness of sandwich plate is estimated by finite element calculation on beam elements cut from the sandwich plate.

This study is directed to understand the origin of that difference with a numerical simulation of the process. The mechanical behaviour of the materials was investigated in tension and hydraulic bulge test, out of comparison’s sake and to derive the hardening law over a strain range representative of the process. Finite element simulations are performed using the von Mises criterion coupled with isotropic hardening, to compare the predicted forming load and springback parameters with experimental values.

The failure load of single-lap bonded joints with dissimilar adherend materials was predicted using the damage zone method. A number of six joint configurations with different thicknesses of the adherends were considered. Three-dimensional finite element models were built to represent the behavior of the bonded joints, and the damage zone method was applied to predict the failure loads of the joints.

This study proposes an alternative approach based on the deep learning paradigm working in a complementary way with conventional methods such as the finite element method for quickly forecasting the responses of structures under random wind loads with reasonable accuracy. In addition, a simplified surrogate model for use in conjunction with coarse shell element meshes is also calibrated. Simulations are performed of all structural experiments to assess the range of validity of the detailed and simplified FE models. It is found that the detailed model captures the experimentally observed failure modes including changes in the location of fracture initiation as a function of the loading, while the simplified model is able to predict the spot weld strength with reasonable accuracy.

The finite element analysis greatly enhances the understanding of the observations while the measurements give the finite element analysis substance. A full-scale test embankment reinforced with Tenax TT 201 polymer geogrids and weathered Bangkok clay as backfill material has been carried out. Finite element method has been employed to reanalyze all the measured data from the above test embankment. The agreement between the finite element results and the field data is quite good. The results indicate that the overconsolidation ratios affect much on the consolidation settlement.
