In this study, dissimilar lap-joints between aluminum alloys 6061 and 316 stainless steel was produced by friction stir welding technology. The attention was put on the effect of different probe lengths on joint strength. The probe length was arranged from 2.7 mm to 2.9 mm.

This study focused the infl uence of welding parameters on the quality of the lap-joint between AA6061 aluminum alloy and C1100 copper. Experimental results indicate that the welding interface was sensitive to welding speed. Some welding defect was found in the joint such as tunnel and hook defects.

In this study, friction stir welding was employed to create a joint between pure copper 1100 and aluminum 1050 plates, each with a thickness of 5 mm. The fabricated results showed that a significant amount of copper was dispersed into the aluminum side to establish the bonding.

The influence of welding speed on the properties of friction stir welded aluminium alloy 5083 was explored. The effects of various welding regimes on the defect formation, hardness distribution, tensile strength, and bending strength of the joint were experimentally investigated. Kissing bond defects were prevalent in the joint, however, this kissing bond was eliminated at high welding rates. The welded zone was softened significantly; all the tensile specimens were fractured in the welding zone with shear mode.

The effect of welding parameters on the mechanical properties of the friction stir welding of heat-treatable 6061-T6 was experimentally investigated. The influence of the welding rates on the hardness, tensile strength, bending strength, and the impact energy of the welding was investigated. The alloy 6061 could be welded with free defects. The mechanical properties were sensitive to the welding regimes and the location in and around the welded zone. Both the tensile and bending strengths of the joint were quite low compared to those of the base alloy 6061.
