The current review paper thus intends to analyze the effectiveness of self-improvement programs that focus on reducing alcoholism in the society. The best initiative that can be taken against this war with substance use would be to motivate and encourage people to stop abusing and exploiting the consumption of alcohol, and that would be possible only if people are aware of the side effects of this beverage.

A template for estimating uncertainties (unc.) of measured neutron-induced fission, (n,f), cross-sections (cs) is presented. This preliminary template not only lists all expected unc. sources but also supplies ranges of unc., estimates for correlations between unc. of the same and different experiments which can be used if the information is nonexistent.

In this thesis, I conducted a case study of three entrepreneurs at different stages that supports the theory that access to capital and strategic decisions affect the success of minority entrepreneurs even if they are not the only factors. This case study provides an in-depth and holistic understanding of issues that plague minority entrepreneurs.

Dietary sugars regulate expression of the intestinal Na + / glucose cotransporter, SGLT1, inmany species.Using sheep intestine as a model, we showed that lumenal monosaccha-rides, both metabolisable and nonmetabolisable, regulate SGLT1 expression. This regulation occurs not only at the level of transcription, but also at the post-transcriptional level. Introduction of D-glucose andsome D-glucose ana-logues into ruminant sheep intestine resultedin 50-fold enhancement of SGLT1 expression.

We can only do a linear search on an unsorted array, but on a sorted array we can do a binary search. In this chapter we will study two different algorithms for searching, linear search and binary search. In linear search we look through an unordered list until we find the item we are looking for. The length of time it takes to look up something using a linear search will depend upon the size of the list. Imagine trying to look up a name in a telephone directory if it was not alphabetized (sorted). If we were to use...

The gene encompassing ORF Rv1885c with weak sequence similarity to AroQ chorismate mutases (CMs) was cloned from the genome ofMycobac-terium tuberculosis and expressed in Escherichia coli. The gene product (*MtCM) complements a CM-deficient E. colistrain, but only if produced without the predicted N-terminal signal sequence typical ofM. tuberculosis. The mature *MtCM, which was purified by exploiting its resistance to irre-versible thermal denaturation, possesses high CM activity in vitro.

Group I intron ribozymes require cations for folding and catalysis, and the current literature indicates that a number of cations can promote folding, but only Mg 2+ and Mn 2+ support both processes. However, some group I introns are active only with Mg 2+ , e.g. three of the five group I introns in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. We have investigated one of these ribozymes, an intron from the 23S LSU rRNA gene of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii (Cr.LSU), by determining if the inhibition by Mn 2+ involves catalysis, folding, or both....

The Balanced Scorecard: Eolution to Long-Term Performance It is measured at the district level rather than the school; it covers only public schools; it is missing for a great many districts who failed to report one of the component variables; and it may be unreliable if districts cannot distinguish mobility from dropout. Moreover, the CCD contains very little information about student

INFORMATION SYSTEM QUALITY : AN EXAMINATION OF SERVICE-BASED MODELS AND ALTERNATIVES If both peer group and school effectiveness are important to parents, then, the Tiebout mechanism rewards effective administrators only when there are many districts. Model (3) suggests that in this case the test score gap between high- and low-income schools will tend to be larger in markets with a great deal of interdistrict competition than in those with less Tiebout choice. I test for this in the empirical analysis below....

Suppose that G is a locally compact abelian group, and write M(G) for the algebra of bounded, regular, complex-valued measures under convolution. A measure µ ∈ M(G) is said to be idempotent if µ ∗ µ = µ, or alternatively if µ takes only the values 0 and 1. The Cohen-Helson-Rudin idempotent theorem states that a measure µ is idempotent if and only if the set {γ ∈ G : µ(γ) = 1} belongs to the coset ring of G, 1. Introduction Let

We study the large scale geometry of the mapping class group, MCG(S). Our main result is that for any asymptotic cone of MCG(S), the maximal dimension of locally compact subsets coincides with the maximal rank of free abelian subgroups of MCG(S). An application is a proof of Brock-Farb’s Rank Conjecture which asserts that MCG(S) has quasi-flats of dimension N if and only if it has a rank N free abelian subgroup. (Hamenstadt has also given a proof of this conjecture, using different methods.

The purpose of this paper is to prove that the stable homotopy category of algebraic topology is ‘rigid’ in the sense that it admits essentially only one model: Rigidity Theorem. Let C be a stable model category. If the homotopy category of C and the homotopy category of spectra are equivalent as triangulated categories, then there exists a Quillen equivalence between C and the model category of spectra. Our reference model is the category of spectra in the sense of Bousfield and Friedlander [BF, §2] with the stable model structure. The point of the rigidity theorem is that its...

A graph G is perfect if for every induced subgraph H, the chromatic number of H equals the size of the largest complete subgraph of H, and G is Berge if no induced subgraph of G is an odd cycle of length at least five or the complement of one. The “strong perfect graph conjecture” (Berge, 1961) asserts that a graph is perfect if and only if it is Berge. A stronger conjecture was made recently by Conforti, Cornu´jols and Vuˇkovi´ — that every Berge graph either falls into e s c one of a few basic classes, or...

Let ϕ : C → C be a bilipschitz map. We prove that if E ⊂ C is compact, and γ(E), α(E) stand for its analytic and continuous analytic capacity respectively, then C −1 γ(E) ≤ γ(ϕ(E)) ≤ Cγ(E) and C −1 α(E) ≤ α(ϕ(E)) ≤ Cα(E), where C depends only on the bilipschitz constant of ϕ. Further, we show that if µ is a Radon measure on C and the Cauchy transform is bounded on L2 (µ), then the Cauchy transform is also bounded on L2 (ϕ µ), where ϕ µ is the image measure of µ by...

We show that the integrated Lyapunov exponents of C 1 volume-preserving diffeomorphisms are simultaneously continuous at a given diffeomorphism only if the corresponding Oseledets splitting is trivial (all Lyapunov exponents are equal to zero) or else dominated (uniform hyperbolicity in the projective bundle) almost everywhere. We deduce a sharp dichotomy for generic volume-preserving diffeomorphisms on any compact manifold:

We show that a finitely presented one-ended group which is not commensurable to a surface group splits over a two-ended group if and only if its Cayley graph is separated by a quasi-line. This shows in particular that splittings over two-ended groups are preserved by quasi-isometries. 0. Introduction Stallings in [St1], [St2] shows that a finitely generated group splits over a finite group if and only if its Cayley graph has more than one end.

The uniform spanning forest (USF) in Zd is the weak limit of random, uniformly chosen, spanning trees in [−n, n]d . Pemantle [11] proved that the USF consists a.s. of a single tree if and only if d ≤ 4. We prove that any two components of the USF in Zd are adjacent a.s. if 5 ≤ d ≤ 8, but not if d ≥ 9. More generally, let N (x, y) be the minimum number of edges outside the USF in a path joining x and y in Zd . Then max N (x, y) : x, y ∈ Zd = (d − 1)/4 a.s.
