Despite advances in oceanographic investigations in the Indian Ocean, zooplankton ecology is still poorly known from the open waters of the Bay of Bengal. In order to understand the vertical and horizontal distribution of zooplankton in the Bay of Bengal during spring intermonsoon, stratified sampling was conducted using a multiple plankton net. We found that higher zooplankton biomass was often associated with mesoscale cold-core eddies.

Sugarcane bagasse as an agricultural/industrial biomass was converted into a low-cost activated carbon via an acid activation procedure under optimized conditions. Phosphoric acid was applied as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly chemical activator. The optimized activated carbon produced under temperature of 550°C and impregnation ratio of 1.5 showed a micromesoporous structure with specific surface area and pore volume of 972.5 m2/g and 0.43 cm3/g, respectively.

In the present investigation, an attempt was made to assess the compatibility of six agrochemicals such as Fungicides (Metalaxyl and Tricyclazole), Insecticides (Profenophos and Chloranthraniliprole) and Herbicides (Glyphosate and Atrazine) against five potassium releasing bacterial and two fungal isolates from Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. Compatibility tests indicated that glyphosate has much severe effect on microbial biomass at low, recommended and double doses.

A study was conducted to evaluate the utility of Azolla as a feed supplement to poultry birds. Two species of azolla viz., A. microphylla and A. filiculoides and two Azolla hybrids viz., Rong ping and TNAU1 were initially analyzed for their nutritional parameters so as to select the suitable Azolla species to feed the poultry birds. Azolla hybrids Rong ping and TNAU1 recorded higher biomass production than wild Azolla cultures.
