Lá ổi có chứa tinh dầu, trong đó có alpha-limonen, bêta-sitosterol, acid maslinic, acid guajavalic. Trong lá ổi non và búp non còn có 7-10% tanin pyrogalic, khoảng 3% nhựa là những hoạt chất có tính kháng khuẩn. Theo lương y Đinh Công Bảy, lá ổi thường được dùng làm thuốc chữa tiêu chảy do có chứa nhiều tanin
