The chapter is divided into two parts: the development of (1) high-resolution probing systems and (2) complete SPM metrology systems. The subject of SPM-probing system design comprises, among other things, the concept of the “sensor objective” to combine conventional microscopy with scanning probe techniques.

  • In this research, strontium hexa-ferrite nanoparticles (SrFe12O19) were synthesized by sol-gel method. The crystal structure, morphology and magnetic properties of nanoparticles were investigated using X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM). The XRD patterns confirmed the formation of single phase M-type hexagonal crystal structure for powders which was calcined above 700oC.

  • The structural properties of these nanocomposites were characterized with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT–IR). The scanning electron microscope (SEM) photo showed that the TiO2– SiO2 layer is thicker than TiO2 layer on the cotton fabric and PES/Co fabric and the Ti–particles were always surrounded by amorphous SiO2 and never alone by themselves. The TiO2–SiO2 nanocomposites were coated onto cotton and PES/Co fabrics by a simple dip–pad–dry–cure process.

  • This study focuses on formulation of the Augmented Lagrangian and application of the Uzawa’s algorithm to solve the homogenization problem of microscopic periodic media as in composites. Unlike in the finite element model, an equally spaced grid system associated with the microstructure domain is used instead of a finite element mesh topology.
