  • There is limited information on the impact on perioperative fluid intervention on complications and length of hospital stay following pancreaticoduodenectomy. Therefore, we conducted a detailed analysis of fluid intervention in patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy at a university teaching hospital to test the hypothesis that a restrictive intravenous fluid regime and/or a neutral or negative cumulative fluid balance, would impact on perioperative complications and length of hospital stay.

  • This paper presents a new model for valuing hybrid defaultable financial instruments, such as, convertible bonds. In contrast to previous studies, the model relies on the probability distribution of a default jump rather than the default jump itself, as the default jump is usually inaccessible. As such, the model can back out the market prices of convertible bonds. A prevailing belief in the market is that convertible arbitrage is mainly due to convertible underpricing. Empirically, however, we do not find evidence supporting the underpricing hypothesis.

  • This study examines the dynamic relationship between energy use, income, and environmental degradation in Afghanistan using annual data from 1970 to 2016. The dynamic causal relationship among variables are being tested; grounded by four testable hypotheses (growth, conservation, feedback, and neutrality). The F-bounds test, Dynamic OLS, and VECM Granger causality are utilized. The empirical results confirm that there is a long-run relationship among the variables and the energy use and GDP both affects the CO2 emissions in the long run.

  • This hypothesis is theoretically appealing and may measure the extent of financial efficiency, and the power of arbitrage, meaning that financial anomalies, due to fads for example, little exist. This paper looks upon fourteen samples of investments for which the difference in maturity is three months and provides various tests that support the hypothesis of risk neutrality.
