Optimization and comparative

This paper suggests a solution for the image segmentation (IS) problem with the multilevel thresholding based on one of the latest hybrid swarm computation optimization algorithms, particle swarms, and gravitational search (PSGA). The experimental results are comparable with other state-of-the-art algorithms that show that the PSGA on selected images is better than the competitors.

Peptides composed of leucyl and lysyl residues (
LK pep-tides) with different compositions and sequences were compared for their antibacterial activities usingcell wall-less bacteria of the classMollicutes(acholeplasmas, mycoplas-mas and spiroplasmas) as targets. The antibacterial activity of the amphipathica-helical peptides varied with their size, 15 residues beingthe optimal length, independent of the membrane hydrophobic core thickness and the amount of cholesterol.

Here we have optimized the conditions for immobilized metal affinity chromatography (IMAC) to enrich for phos-phoproteins. The metal ions, Ga(III), Fe(III), Zn(II), and Al(III), were compared for their abilities to trap phosphoproteins; Ga(III) was the best.

The aim of this study was to develop a method for gene transfer into rat primary dorsal root ganglion neurons using sonoporation. Methods: Dissociated cells from adult rat dorsal root ganglion (DRG) cells were sonicated for 1-8 s at 2.5-10 W to determine the optimal ultrasound duration and power for gene transfection and cell survival.
