  • Social determinants of health have a strong influence on a wide diversity of health endpoints. The same is valid for the field of environmental health, as the exposure to environmental risk factors is also unequally distributed, and this unequal distribution is often related to social characteristics such as income, social status, employment and education, but also non-economic aspects such as gender, age or ethnicity. However, depending on the environmental risk and the “risk group” considered, the magnitude of inequality varies largely.

  • This chapter provides a review of the issues involved in accounting for renewable and envi- ronmental resources. It is not intended to be a comprehensive review ofwork in this area. Rather, it delineates the issues that are involved in envi- ronmental accounting and presents two important specific examples that illustrate these issues. The first section reviews BEA’s efforts in environmental accounting to date. Next, we analyze how stocks and flows of residuals fromhuman activities relate to natural sources of residuals, natural resource assets, stocks, flows, and economic activity.

The portfolio that works best tends to hold stocks and bonds as well as insurance products. We are attempting to put these decisions together in a single framework. Thus, we are trying to provide a theoretical foundation—a framework—and practical solutions for developing investment advice for individual investors throughout their lives.

  • With a shared server architecture, a small pool of server processes can serve a large number of clients. This reduces the server’s memory requirements. Connection pooling and session multiplexing features are enabled through shared server. Connection Pooling Connection pooling enables the database server to time out protocol connections and to use those connections to service an active session. Session Multiplexing Session multiplexing, available with Oracle Connection Manager, enables multiple client sessions to funnel through a single protocol connection. ...

As a re- sult of heterogeneity in MBAs’ preferences, though the marginal graduate is indifferent between the two sectors, some (perhaps nearly all) graduates ex- pect to strictly prefer the sector they choose. The state of the stock market is likely to have a larger marginal effect on expectations about w0 f than income in the general sector because favorable conditions on Wall Street will increase demand for labor and expected pay.

  • As part of our ongoing effort to improve the accuracy of data used to evaluate the ENERGY STAR program, we wanted to capture data from a wider range of commercial building types and geographic regions. While our sample is not large enough to distinguish regional differences in equipment night-time or after-hours power status, we hope to improve the robustness of our data by increasing its geographic diversity. Also, because office equipment is not confined to offices or office buildings, we wanted to capture data from other...

  • Each test was conducted using 3 replications. It was necessary to conduct additional experimentation when analyzing for alcohol-toluene extractive content and holocellulose content. The alcohol-toluene test is the starting material for many of the other experiments. Both the lignin and holocellulose content test are performed with extractive-free bamboo that is derived from the alcohol-toluene extractive test. Additionally, holocellulose is a necessary preparatory stage in order to determine the alpha-cellulose content.

  • In the last two decades, the discovery of signaling roles of ROS demonstrated their universal use in biological systems. The third section of this book, entitled “Reactive Species as Signaling Molecules” contains the chapters covering clear ROS-based signaling in yeasts and plants. It is not strange that many authors provide readers with the information gained from yeasts. This is a very popular classic eukaryotic model system to disclose molecular mechanisms of cellular responses to oxidative stress (Lushchak, 2010). In the first chapter of this book section, M. A. de la Torre-Ruiz et al..

During his reign five hundred years later, Augustus sought to align his rule with this era and promote a rebirth of the golden age of Greece in Rome. Augustus’s interest in Greek art and culture strengthened Roman reverence for classical Greek art, philosophy, and intellectual life.

There are nonetheless some trends towards greater reliance on public or subsidised private coverage for individuals facing higher health care cost, such as the elderly and those with chronic conditions, even where PHI plays a significant or primary role.

Unlike a storm event that typically contains higher concentration during the first 2 hours our site has a fairly consistent flow of wash water that is estimated to be consistent through out the day. For this reason, composite samples were taken over a two hour period. The intent of the sampling was to establish a composite pollutant sample. This was done by dividing all of the containers and bottles to be filled for testing into ten equal parts. The grab sample was taken...

  • The question of time sequencing of benefits is about whether benefits should be paid at a fixed rate over the spell of unemployment or decline (or increase) over the spell. This issue appeared in the literature on optimal UI in the late 1970s and has attracted new attention in recent research. 1 Issues regarding monitoring and sanctions concern how much resources should be spent on checking search behavior and how sanctions, such as benefit cuts, should be implemented if prescribed search requirements are not met.

A remote user who has no access rights to the system can attempt to gain access as an authorized user. Authenticated users of those interfaces can also be considered to be the sources of external threats, as they may try to exploit vulnerabilities in the system not available to unauthenticated users. ...

  • In finance and healthcare, event processing systems handle sensitive data on behalf of many clients. Guaranteeing information security in such systems is challenging because of their strict performance requirements in terms of high event throughput and low processing latency. We describe DEFCON, an event processing system that enforces constraints on event flows between event processing units. DEFCON uses a combination of static and runtime techniques for achieving light-weight isolation of event flows, while supporting efficient sharing of events.
