Mechanical engineering principles aims to broaden the reader’s knowledge of the basic principles that are fundamental to mechanical engineering design and the operation of mechanical systems. In 1998, it was first reported that a silica material with large, uniform mesopores arranged into a two-demensional hexagonal structure is synthesized using triblock copolymer and oligomer templates poly (ethylene oxide), (EO)n. This silica was denoted SBA-15. Up to now, it is believed that ordered mesopores of SBA-15 are connected through complementary pores (microporores and small mesopores) in the siliceous pore walls. SBA-15 can be readily synthesized using cheap materials and it shows attractive structural properties, very good hydrothemal stability.
