Using a data-driven approach to study and predict the shear strength of slender steel fiber reinforced concrete beams has great applicability for the design and construction process. Based on the data-driven approach, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model with some hyperparameters optimized by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is successfully built.

Treating dredged sediment is a complex processing and ongoing challenge. To utilize dredged sediment for the landfill or construction purposes, a material fabricated from a mixture of dredged sediment, Portland cement, and fly ash, was cured under room temperature and hydrothermal condition at 180 °C and 0.9 MPa pressure for 16 hours. The response surface methodology was used to evaluate the compressive strength of the material, with the range of factors investigated being the dredged sediments/solid ratio (0.3 - 0.9), cement/fly ash ratio (2 - 4), and water/solid ratio (0.45 - 0.55).

Natural precious products such as aroma compounds, essential oils, and bio-activated materials are usually extracted from about 30,000 botanical species. These extracts are often high competitive market due to their small content (less than 1 %) in plants and high purification cost. Thus, development of a modeling for the optimization of the crude oil extraction is highly paid attention. In this work, a modeling of Vietnam lemongrass oil extraction using steam distillation is developed and the optimization of the process parameters is performed using response surface methodology (RSM).

In this research, we lay out a model to estimate the effect of rainfall by simulating the actual physical processes of the rain drops forming on the surface of the blades of a vertical-axis wind turbine (VAWT), thereby determining optimal wetness, then power and performance respectively. This could have an effect on the control strategy necessary for designing and controlling wind turbine.

(BQ) In this paper, working current, working voltage, oil pressure, spark gap Pulse On Time and Pulse Off Time on Material Removal Rate (MRR) and Surface Finish (Ra) has been studied. Empirical models for MRR and Ra have been developed by conducting a designed experiment based on the Grey Relational Analysis. Genetic Algorithm (GA) based multi-objective optimization for maximization of MRR and minimization of Ra has been done by using the developed empirical models. Optimization results have been used for identifying the machining conditions.

This paper proposes a new probabilistic algorithm for solving multi-objective optimization problems - Probability-Driven Search Algorithm. The algorithm uses probabilities to control the process in search of Pareto optimal solutions. Especially, we use the absorbing Markov Chain to argue the convergence of the algorithm. Authors test this approach by implementing the algorithm on some benchmark multi-objective optimization problems, and find very good and stable results.

For simplicity, in the example we have assumed that a new map is created at the end of every step. This is certainly a possibility, but it is not necessarily the best option. Later in this book, we will discuss data modeling and how to optimize the sequence of operations. In particular, Chapters 8 and 9 cover spatial operators and functions that make it possible to cluster some of the steps in the example into single queries, making the process much simpler and more efficient.
