This ASTRA network paper examines barriers to accessing reproductive health services and supplies in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). The paper finds that reproductive health is not prioritised in government policies: they lack a commitment to recognise reproductive health supplies as an important component of public health and human rights and there is no adequate legislation and policy in this area. Condoms are widely available, but their cost is often high, especially for young people.

The social democratic political economies showed higher levels of union density, that is, a greater propor- tion of workers belonging to organised labour unions, social security expenditures, and public employment levels. They had the largest public expenditure in health care from 1960 to 1990, and greatest health care coverage of citizens. These nations instituted full employment strategies, achieved high rates of female employment, and showed the lowest degree of income inequality and poverty rates.

This section presents a review of literature on elderly housing and its consumption. It includes those published papers that have used AHS data in the analyses. The papers that did not use AHS data are included in Appendix A. We identified and reviewed 12 studies, including those mentioned in our original research plan and others identified as a result of online and library database searches. Roughly half of the reviewed studies made use of the AHS data. Three papers were identified that used AHS data to investigate elderly housing consumption. ...

The perception of odour may result in some individuals reporting subjective sensory irritation, and individuals may perceive formaldehyde at concentrations below 0.1 mg/m3 . However, this is not considered to be an adverse health effect. The NOAEL of 0.6 mg/m3 for the eye blink response is adjusted using an assess- ment factor of 5 derived from the standard deviation of nasal pungency (sensory irritation) thresholds, leading to a value of 0.12 mg/m3 , which has been rounded down to 0.1 mg/m3 .

This emphasis on the spectacular and exotic, consistent with an oppositional or marginal view of the consumer, is often also emphasised in academic writing on counterfeiting. Consumers of counterfeits are often represented through anecdotal narratives which serve as a proxy for deeper understanding of consumer motivations. For example, Lasica (2005) illustrates his work with case studies which potentially confuse everyday users with vanguard consumers.

While – as Hake (2004: 193) has stated – there is still a tendency to estab- lish a discursive dichotomy between consumer culture and the elitist thoughts of avant-garde movements, it should be stressed that both share a common rhetoric of innovation and progress. Furthermore, it was precisely this intel- lectual reflection about the status of art vis-à-vis everyday life that called for a tight bond between the two and led to the goal of an Aesthetisierung des Alltags (aestheticisation of everyday life) in the context of the Weimar Republic....

The MP3EI is a very ambitious plan. It aims to propel Indonesia into the top ten worldwide economies and raise income per capita from US$ 3000 to US$ 15,000 by 2025. The policy rests on three main pillars: establishing six economic corridors based on the comparative advantage of the different regions of Indonesia; promoting connectivity within Indonesia, the ASEAN region and globally as well as improving human resources and science and technology. PPPs are expected to play an important role in the implementation of the MP3EI.

Transparency, predictability and longevity of government programmes are necessary if investors are to initiate a project in green technologies. For instance, the degree of high uncertainty in American Production Tax Credits (PTC) was a contributing factor to investor exit from the wind power sector, in particular - illustrating the importance for governments of ensuring that programmes are not subject to excessive policy uncertainty (see Figure 2). Retroactive policy changes regarding solar power projects in Spain have also been concerning investors.

We need a prompt corrective action and orderly closure rule for large investment banks along the lines of what we have for banks in FIDICIA, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Improvement Act of 1991. The assumption used to be that failure of a large bank would be much more costly for the economy than failure of a large nonbank, but that assumption has become less and less defensible.6 Nonbanks now provide a larger share of financial intermediation in the United States than banks. Large nonbanks are big players in derivative markets.

The second group was formed of men with a suspicion of prostate cancer based on an elevated serum PSA and/or abnormal digital rectal examination, and the blood sample taken immediately before the prostate biopsy. The presence or absence of CPCs was to be compared with the biopsy results, the Gleason score, percent of sample infiltrated with cancer, and number of positive cores. The sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values were to be calculated. In men with a false negative test the details of the cancer detected would be evaluated.

Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. The incidence of malignant melanoma has increased exponentially in recent decades. Although there are some available treatments for melanoma, the mortality rate is still high. The stage of melanoma at diagnosis is directly related to the treatment options and the survival rate. In the last decade, much more efforts have been made in the understanding and the management of the disease.

One of the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that has made some progress, albeit slow, is MDG 5: Improve maternal health. The two targets for assessing MDG 5 are reducing the maternal mortality ratio (MMR) by three quarters between 1990 and 2015, and achieving universal access to reproductive health by 2015. The United Nations (UN) Secretary-General has launched the Global strategy for women’s and children’s health, to mobilize commitments by governments, civil society organizations and development partners to accelerate progress towards MDGs 4 and 5 (1).

A wide range of poultry products are traded and are aggregated in the model into two distinct categories: high-value and low-value products. The high-value poultry product includes white meat (breasts and wings) of chicken and turkey along with de- boned meat and specialty items. Low-value poultry is comprised of mainly dark meat (drumsticks and thighs) of chicken and turkey. 3 White and dark meats are produced in essentially equal and fixed amounts per bird and are thus treated as jointly produced goods in the model.

Assessing the diversity of AnGR is made more difficult by the existence of many animal populations that are not assigned to any recognized breed. Even though parts of these “non-descript” populations are known to be multiple crosses of recognized breeds, some animals may belong to (relatively) homogenous groups distinguishable from neighbouring populations on the basis of identifiable and stable phenotypic characteristics (among which may be unique and valuable attributes) that warrant their being distinguished as separate breeds.

Oates (62) investigated causes of death in women up to one year after giving birth in the UK and came to the conclusion that during the period, 1997-1999, suicide was the leading cause of death - responsible for 10% of all deaths. In 86% of the cases it was possible to make a psychiatric diagnosis, indicating that 68% of women who committed suicide were suffering from a serious mental illness (psychosis or severe depressive illness). Drife (63) observed similar results for the period, 2000-2002. Austin et al.

Cell suspension of Panax ginseng was cultivated in bioreactor under different concentrations of ethylene. The synthesis of saponin was greatly reduced in all the ethylene concentrations compared to control. The cell fresh (320 g/L) and dry weight (12.5 g/L) were increased at 10 ppm ethylene concentration at the experiment end. However, at higher ethylene concentration (20 ppm) the fresh and dry weight decreased significantly when compared with control.
