In this research, the smoothed finite element methods (S-FEM) based on the edge-based (ES) and node-based (NS) approaches are combined to develop for the 3-node triangular plate element which uses the mixed interpolation of tensorial components (MITC3) technique to remove the shear-locking phenomenon.

In this paper, the provisions for predicting the punching shear capacity of two-way reinforced concrete (RC) flat slabs without shear reinforcement including ACI 318-19, Eurocode 2 and TCVN 5574:2018 provisions are reviewed by mean of considering the influences of the main parameters (effective depth, compressive strength of concrete, loaded area, reinforcement ratio).

This study investigates the performance of prototype U-FREIs under cyclic loading by both experiments and FE analysis. In experiments, four prototype specimens with the same sizes in plan and two different values of shear modulus are produced, and then the characteristic properties including the horizontal stiffness as well as the energy dissipation capacity and the equivalent viscous damping are assessed.

The susceptibility of the diagonal member of the Concentrically Braced Frames (CBFs) to buckling reduces the energy-dissipating capacity of the CBFs. Despite of high ultimate strength and stiffness of the CBFs as considerable advantages, its shortcoming (low dissipating energy capacity) is accounted as an important dilemma for this system.

Structural steel pipes have been applied commonly in the bridge construction for foundations or piers with many advantages such as large bending capacity, high shear resistance, and rapid construction. However, site welded joints may face critical technical matters which need to be considered for steel pipe piers during construction stage.

In the current paper, the effect of central and edge cracks, therefore, has been studied in jointed plates at mid-height of SPSW. Results indicated that the central crack is more destructive than the edge crack. The central crack having a long initial length also makes a sudden wall fracture in the elastic zone and consequently cannot be used in high seismic regions.
