  • This book is intended to provide an introduction to the technical concepts of wastewater treatment. It assumes that the reader has at least a first-year undergraduate level of scientific understanding but not necessarily any previous knowledge of wastewater treatment. A reading list is provided at the end of the book for more in-depth information on the topics that are introduced here. The authors are based in the United Kingdom and therefore the scientific units and terminology that are used in this book are those which are common in that country....

  • Taking military barracks wastewater treatment as an example, this paper presents a new concept design of a modified DEWATS system with both the horizontal subsurface constructed wetland and aquatic plants pond. Results show that this process in treating the military barracks area wastewater have many advantages such as low operation cost, simple operation and maintenance, and the effluent could meet "the urban wastewater treatment plant pollutant discharge standard" for first level Class A.

  • The main objective of this study was to examine the efficacy and capacity of using hydroponic systems in municipal pollutant removal at household scale. Three pilot scaled hydroponic systems [dimension for each system: 4.5 m (L) x Φ 114 mm] were installed to investigate the optimal age of vegetable, planting density and retention time for household wastewater treatment, respectively.

  • This volume covers the technologies that are applied to the treatment and purification of water. Those who are generally familiar with this field will immediately embrace the subject as a treatise on solid-liquid separations. However, the subject is much broader, in that the technologies discussed are not just restricted to pollution control hardware that rely only upon physical methods of treating and purifymg wastewaters.

  • To properly operate a waterworks or wastewater treatment plant and to pass the examination for a waterworks/wastewater operator’s license, it is necessary to know how to perform certain calculations. In reality, most of the calculations that operators at the lower level of licensure need to know how to perform are not difÞcult, but all operators need a basic understanding of arithmetic and problem-solving techniques to be able to solve the problems they typically encounter.

  • The use of aeration in the wastewater treatment field has been in existence for over a century. Each of the authors has been involved with the theory and application of aeration systems for a little less than half a century. It was a daunting task to put together what we considered the important principles underlying the mechanisms involved in aeration and show how they are applied in practical applications.

  • As a conventional treatment process, centrifugal dewatering of sludge required an additional energy of 1,376 kWh per day for recycling, pumping, mixing as well as transporting sludge. The conclusion was that anaerobic digestion can reduce the green-house gases versus conventional dewatering. The results from this research can thus demonstrate the applicability of anaerobic digestion on conversion of waste to energy, looking forward to resource recovery.

  • In this article, wastewater containing 2,4,6 trinitrotoluen (TNT) was treated by internal microelectrolysis with bimetal Fe-Cu materials. Components of TNT pollutant content was identified by HPLC method. Examined factors: pH, time, temperature, concentration of Fe-Cu bimetal to efficient treatment of TNT in the wastewater. With conditions at pH 5, bimetal Fe-Cu dosage of 50 g for l litre of wastewater, TNT original content in the wastewater infected about 95-106.4 mg/l, temperature of 25 0 C, after 6 hours of processing time, content TNT rest 0.2 - 0.5 mg/l, after 6 hours not observed.
