  • This thesis proposes and implements a new and novel solution on simulators and real devices to solve the mobility problem in a VPN. The new solution adds mobility support to existing L2TP/IPsec (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol/IP Security) tunnels. The new solution tunnels Layer 2 packets between VPN clients and a VPN server without using Mobile IP, without incurring tunnel-re-establishment at handoff, without losing packets during handoff, achieves better security than current mobility solutions for VPN, and supports fast handoff in IPv4 networks.

  • The aim of this research is to employ a sensitivity study for the total thrust of a ducted twin counter-rotating propeller system design for UAV applications using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Two factors were investigated: propeller spacing and difference between blades pitch angle. Using discrete values for both factors, 32 designs were analysed and evaluated. The same approach was also used for an equivalent unducted propeller system to access the influence of the duct.

  • The main focus of this thesis is on the application of a model predictive control (MPC) method to devise an ABS for a BBW vehicle. Unlike the traditional ABS control algorithms which are based on a trial and error method, the MPC based ABS algorithm aims to utilizes the behaviour of the model to optimize the wheel slip dynamics subject to system constraints. Performance of the proposed wheel slip controller is validated through Software-in-the-Loop (SiL) and Hardware-inthe-Loop (HiL) simulation.

  • This dissertation presents a creative practice-based experiment in civil celebrancy with the focus on contemporary celebrancy. The dissertation constructs and reflects upon a Ceremony of Restoration to give meaning, healing, and mending for people’s lives in the wake of traumatic, chaotic, and unresolved events. This ceremony can be used by the person, or people, at its centre to give expression to such experiences and feelings and to build resilience through a secular ritual involving their stories, memories, images, personal artefacts, and music.

  • The research has designed a novel active truck seat suspension system for a further study of active vibration control. A 5-degree-of-freedom driver and seating suspension system model for active vibration control has been developed. A novel fast system parameter identification method from vibration measurement data has been proposed for the seat-occupant system based on the multi-objective Genetic Algorithm optimization (GA).

  • The thesis consists of five chapters which aim to investigate the mechanical properties and fabricating processes of different biomedical Ti scaffolds, with the structure presented: Chapter 1 is a generalized introduction to the content of the thesis, including the background, scopes and objectives of the research. In Chapter 2, a comprehensive literature review is presented. Chapter 3 presents the design and fabrication of the Ti scaffolds. In Chapter 4, the mechanical properties of the fabricated Ti scaffolds were analyzed.

  • This research project investigates the influence of decoration and decorating on a fashion design practice, exploring the transformative effects of both in relation to surface and structure. Decoration is considered an after-effect, an element that can be differentiated from the object it adheres to, sometimes making it superfluous to the object’s function. In this project I consider decoration as having its own function – the ability, through its link to the ‘exterior’ world, to transform the shape, appearance and materials of forms by modifying their façade.

  • This research commenced with the proposition the design of mature women’s fashion is not well understood and seems underrepresented in the Australian marketplace and media”. The objectives of the research were to firstly raise awareness of the issues confronting this mature consumer group and secondly challenge the conventional assumptions about the aesthetic viability of designing apparel for the mature women’s market.
