Topic: Shopping
1) Do you like shopping? Why (or) Why not? (2 pts.)
-Yes, I do. Because it helps me to relax.
-No, I don’t. Because it’s a waste of time and money.
2) Do you like shopping online? Why (or) Why not? (2 pts.)
-Yes, I do. Because it’s cheap and convenient.
-Yes, I do. Because I can buy whatever at anytime and anywhere I want.
-No, I don’t. Because there are many problems such as wrong product, poor quality or fake
products, late / slow delivery.
Part II: Discussion Situation (6 pts. – 2’):
Your classmates are making a plan for birthday party.
Which plan do you think is the best choice for you?
1) Having meal in a restaurant
2) Singing karaoke
Choose ONE of two options to discuss:
-Choose one option and explain the reason for choosing this option (3 pts.)
-Explain the reason for NOT choosing the other option (3 pts).
1) We plan to have meal in a restaurant for birthday party because we love party. We do not
choose singing karaoke because it’s so noisy in the karaoke room.
2) We plan to sing karaoke for birthday party because karaoke is a great way to socialize and
connect with others. (In addition, singing karaoke can be a great way to reduce stress and relax)
We do not choose hav ing meal in a restaurant because it’s expensive.

- I like fiction and romantic novels because they are very interesting to read.
- I often read reference books, especially books about English grammar and other cultures
beacuse they help me have a wide knowledge and know a lot of news and information about
the outside world. Reading newspapers also makes me relaxed and comfortable. Besides,
buying books is not very expensive.
2) When do you think is the best time to read? Why? (2 pts.)
- I think the best time to read is before going to bed because reading books makes us relaxed,
comfortable and forgets a hard-working day.

Your parents’ wedding anniversary is coming. You children are thinking of giving them a

1. My parents’ wedding anniversary is coming. I would like to take them to a studio for a family
album so as to keep the good memories together. I do not choose a 3-day tour to the beach for
them because it is expensive. Also, my parents are old and can’t go on a tour by themselves.
2. I would like to give my parents a 3-day tour to the beach. My reason is very simple. My parents
love the beach, and they love going there for a holiday but they haven’t made it because they
are so busy with their kids. I am sure that my gift will make them extremely happy and they
will have the moments of their life. Another reason is that we have had 2 family albums
already.

2) How often do you do exercise? (2 pts.)
- I do exercise everyday in the early morning because it makes me feel stronger to start a new
day.
3) Do you prefer to exercise alone or in a gym? Why? (2 pts.)
- In my opinion, I prefer to exercise in a gym because doing exercises in a gym with the help of
an instructor (or personal trainer - PT) and other people provides me with strong motivation to
practise harder and better.
- I prefer to exercise in a gym because seeing many people do exercise around makes me more
excited and do it better.
Part II: Discussion Situation (2 pts. – 2’):
You have just received a sum of money from your father as a birthday present. How would
you use the money?
1. To buy a latest model smartphone.
2. To save up for future.

1) If my father gave me a sum of money as a birthday present, I would buy a new smartphone.
The reason is that I have already had a laptop, and it is not small enough to take with me to
everywhere. A smartphone is useful for my study as well as for my job. I can talk, chat, and
send emails, instant messages to the others conveniently. I can also listen to music, play
games or read e-books with a smartphone too.
2) If my father gave me a sum of money for my birthday, I would not buy a smartphone,
because it’s a waste of money. The reason is that I have had a good one already. So I would
save up that money for the future. Running my own business is my dream, but I cannot start
one without capital. Now I do not have enough, but I believe that if I save money gradually, I
can make my dream come true.

- I often watch television about one hour a day. At weekends, I watch more hours because I have a
lot of free time.
- I rarely watch TV, because I don’t have much free time/ I’m always busy. At weekends, I spend
about one or two hours watching TV with my family members.
2) Which TV programmes do you like? (2 pts.)
- I like some English programs on VTV3 channel. By watching them, I can improve my English
listening and speaking skills.
- The News is my favourite programme because it provides me with useful knowledge and
information of all fields. You can sit at your comfortable armchair but know everything that is
happening in the world.
Part II: Discussion Situation (4 pts. – 2’):
If you won the lottery of 2 billion VND, what would you do with the money?
1. Buy a new house.
2. Start a business.

1) If I won the lottery of 2 billion VND, I would buy a house because I am now living with my
parents and I want to have an independent life. After I buy house, I will have a stable life and
start a business to earn money and deposit it in the bank.
2) If I won the lottery of 2 billion VND, I would start a business. Firstly, having my own business
is my dream. I want to make money by myself and to stand on my feet. If my business ran well,
I could buy a house, deposit the money in the bank, do charity and other good things.
