The Great Barrier Reef, located off the coast of Queensland, Australia, is the world's largest coral
reef system. Stretching over 2,300 kilometers, it is made up of more than 2,900 individual reefs and 900
islands. The reef is home to an incredible variety of marine life, including colorful fish, sea turtles,
sharks, and over 400 types of coral. It is one of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet. This incredible
biodiversity makes the Great Barrier Reef a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Unfortunately, the Great Barrier Reef is under serious threat due to climate change, pollution, and
overfishing. Rising sea temperatures are causing coral bleaching, which weakens and kills the corals.
