The current study first describes the chemical composition of the leaf essential oil of Cinnamomum subpenninervium Kosterm. ex H.H. Pham collected from Nghe An province, Central Vietnam.

This study aimed to quantify the phenolic contents and the antioxidant capacities of leaf extract powders from three Myrtaceae plants, namely Cleistocalyx operculatus (Vietnamese name: Vối), Psidium guajava (Ổi), and Rhodomyrtus tomentosa (Sim), investigate their inhibitive activities on the growth of bacteria isolated from spoiled shrimps, and evaluate their values as preservative agents in the cold storage of Pacific whiteleg shrimps (Penaeus vannamei).

In this study, the antimicrobial activity and phytochemical constituents of neem leaves and lemon grass oil extracts were evaluated. Oil extracts of neem leaves and lemon grass were obtained by solvent extraction method using hexane and ethanol.

(2001) Eur. J. Biochem., 268, 2124–2133]. The molecular mechanisms involved in the biosynthesis, folding andmode of action of MccJ25 are still unknown.

To elucidate the structural features of the mussel defensin MGD1 required for antimicrobial activity, we synthesized a series of peptides corresponding to the main known secon-dary structures of the molecule and evaluated their activity towards Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, and filamentous fungi. We found that the nonapeptide corres-ponding to residues 25–33 of MGD1 (CGGWHRLRC) exhibited bacteriostatic activity once it was cyclized by a non-naturally occurring disulfide bridge.

The role of vertebrate histone proteins or histone derived peptides as innate immune effectors has only recently been appreciated. In this study, high levelsof corehistoneproteins H2A, H2B, H3 and H4 were found in hemocytes from the Pacific white shrimp,Litopenaeus vannamei. The proteins were identified by in-gel digestion, mass spectrometry ana-lysis, and homology searching. The L. vannameihistone proteins were found to be highly homologous to histones of other species.
