The study was carried out during 2013-14 in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh state to focus on the sugarcane growers regarding impact of knowledge on adoption level of IPM practices. The 80 contact farmers were selected as respondents. The study revealed that the maximum knowledge gap was found to be existing in previous crop residues, crop rotation, hand picking of the insect and their destruction, hot air and water treatment, light and pheromone trap, microbial control, use of natural enemies, resistant varieties, biopesticides/ bio-agents, application and dose of different pest etc.

Slow sand filtration has been an effective means of treating water for the control of microbiological contaminants. Schmutzdecke is the layer of the microbial community that is responsible for treating the water through the sand bed. As water passes through this biological layer, foreign particles are trapped and essentially eaten by bacteria forms on this layer. Development of Schmutzdecke layer depends on available microbes in raw water, food supply, oxygen supply, residence time, and wetting of sand bed.

The human b-globin gene locus is the subject of intense study, and over the past two decades a wealth of information has accumulated on how tissue-specific and stage-specific expression of its genes is achieved. The data are extensive and it would be difficult, if not impossible, to formulate a comprehensive model integrating every aspect of what is currently known. In this review, we introduce the fundamental characteristics of globin locus regulation as well as questions on which much of the current research is predicated.

The activity of outer membrane phospholipase A (OMPLA) is regulated by reversible dimerization. However, native OMPLA reconstituted in phospholipid vesicles was found to be present as a dimer but nevertheless inactive. To investigate the importance of dimerization for control of OMPLA activity, a covalent OMPLA dimer was constructed and its properties were compared to native OMPLA both in a micellar detergent and after reconstitution in a phospholipid bilayer.

We used parameter scanning to emulate changes to the limitingrate for steps inafittedmodel of glucose-derepressed yeast glycolysis. Three flux-control regimes were observed, two of which were under the dominant control of hexose transport, in accordance with various experimental studies andothermodel predictions.

We have recently identified an Ets element controlling over 90%of the basal expression of the human presenilin 1 (PS1) gene. We have also shown that Ets1 and Ets2 act as trans-activators of the PS1 gene by cotransfection experiments in SK-N-SH neuronal cells. The PS1 gene is widely but dif-ferentially expressed across tissues and the expression in brain appears to be restricted to neurons. To gain further insight into the regulation of the gene we have examined the regulation of PS1 by 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol 13-acetate (TPA). ...

The currently accepted model of moult control in crusta-ceans relies entirely on the hypothesis that moult-inhibiting hormone (MIH) and crustacean hyperglycaemic hormone (CHH) repress ecdysteroid synthesis of the target tissue (Y-organ) only during intermoult, and that changes in syn-thesis and/or release of these neurohormones are central to moult control.

The mitogen activated protein (MAP) kinase module: (Raf fiMEKfiERKs) is central to the control of cell growth, cell differentiation and cell survival. The fidelity of signalling and the spatio-temporal activation are key deter-minants in generating precise biological responses. The fidelity is ensured by scaffold proteins – protein kinase insulators – andby specific docking sites. The duration and the intensity of the response are in part controlled by the compartmentalization of the signalling molecules. ...

Antioxidant protein 2 (AOP2) is a member of a family of thiol-specific antioxidants, recently renamedperoxiredoxins, that evolvedas part of anelaborate systemtocounteract and control detrimental effects of oxygen radicals. AOP2 is found in endothelial cells, erythrocytes, monocytes, T andB cells, but not in granulocytes. AOP2 was found solely in the cytoplasm and was not associated with the nuclear or membrane fractions; neither was it detectable in plasma.

Humanb2 -glycoprotein I (b2 GPI), also known as apolipo-protein H, has been implicated in haemostasis and the pro-duction ofanti-phospholipid antibodies. There is a wide range ofinterindividual variation in b2GPI plasma levels that is thought to be under genetic control, but itsmolecular basis remains unknown. To understand the genetic basis of b2GPI variation, we analyzed the 5¢ flanking region ofthe b2GPIgene for mutation detection by DHPLC and identi-fied a point mutation at the transcriptional initiation site ()1CfiA) with a carrier frequency of 12.1%. ...

Nitric oxide (NO) is a potent intra- and intercellular mes-senger involved in the control of vascular tone, neuronal signallingandhost response to infection. Inmammals,NOis synthesized by oxidation ofL-arginine catalysed by heme-proteins called NO-synthases with intermediate formation of N x -hydroxy-L-arginine (NOHA). NOHA and some hydroxyguanidines have been shown to be able to deliver nitrogen oxides including NO in the presence of various oxidative systems.

Serpins are the largest family of protease inhibitors and are fundamental for the control of proteolysis in multicellular eukaryotes. Most eukaryote serpins inhibit serine or cysteine proteases, however, noninhibitory mem-bers have been identified that perform diverse functions in processes such as hormone delivery and tumour metastasis. More recently inhibitory ser-pins have been identified in prokaryotes and unicellular eukaryotes, never-theless, the precise molecular targets of these molecules remains to be identified....
