Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a malignant tumor arising from the inner lining of the colon or rectum and is the third most common cancer and the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. This article reports two cases of heavily pretreated metastatic CRC (mCRC) with HER2 overexpression who achieved a remarkable clinical response to trastuzumab plus pertuzumab.

There have been many studies in using intrathecal morphine order to reduce pain after obstetrics and gynecological surgeries, abdominal surgeries and orthopedic surgeries. These studies have shown that intrathecal morphine is very effective for pain relief after surgery. However, intrathecal morphine also has side effects especially in obstetric and gynecological surgeries such as pruritus, postoperative nausea and vomiting, and delayed respiratory depression.

Ostomy has become a common therapy for treating gastrointestinal diseases such as colorectal cancer. Patients with ostomy experience many problems including appearance change, uncontrolled discharge and odour, sexual dysfunction, decreased social functioning, and difficulties taking care of themselves. The cAMP response element consensus sequence directs the transcription of a wide range of genes. A 24-mer single-stranded cAMP response element decoy oligonucleotide (CDO) has been shown to compete with these sequences for binding transcription factors and therefore interferes with cAMP-induced gene transcription. We have examined the effect of this CDOalone and in combinationwith a range of common chemotherapeutic agents in colorectal cancer cell lines.

MicroRNAs are aberrantly expressed in cancer; microRNA-143 (miR-143) is down-regulated in colon cancer. HCT116 human colorectal cancer cells were used to investigate the biological role of miR-143. Transient miR-143 overexpression resulted in an approximate 60% reduction in cell via-bility.
