• Verniform = worm-like (Andreas Versalius, 1543)

ANATOMY
- A short, blind-ended outpouching from the caecum.
- With an outer serosal layer of peritoneum
- A muscular layer
- an inner mucosal layer with multiple mucin-secreting
goblet cells.
- A large amount of lymphoid tissue within the
submucosa.
