The Amazon Rainforest
The Amazon Rainforest is the largest tropical rainforest in the world, covering about 6.7 million square
kilometers. It is often referred to as the "lungs of the Earth" because it produces around 20% of the
world’s oxygen. The rainforest is home to an incredible variety of plants and animals. There are
thousands of species of trees, including the Brazil nut tree and the giant kapok tree, which can grow up to
60 meters tall. The Amazon is also home to many animals such as jaguars, sloths, and countless types of
birds.
The Amazon River, which runs through the rainforest, is the second-longest river in the world and is full
of life, including piranhas, anacondas, and pink river dolphins. The rainforest plays a crucial role in
regulating the Earth’s climate, but it is under threat due to deforestation. This destruction is caused by
activities like logging, mining, and agriculture. Efforts are being made to protect this vital ecosystem, but
much more needs to be done to ensure its survival.
