  2. 1. Da Lat, which is surrounded by the great/imposing hills and mountains, takes up/covers/is situated in a large area on the Lam Vien Plateau.. 2. The economic development of Vietnam has to be viewed in the context of long periods of wars. It is the context of long periods of wars that has caused loss of people’s lives and damage to property, public facilities and resources. 3. Despite the great improvement in the woman status, other things must be done to improve women’s health, nutrition and education.
  3. 4. The television network is being established throughout the country. Apart from the relatively modern and long-standing television stations in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, 25 provincial stations were set up in 1988. These relay the important transmissions of the central TV stations and broadcast their own programmes. 5. Nowadays, the world has been facing a number of serious problems in spite of the fact that there have been dramatic progresses in science, technology and knowledge. One of the problems is the population explosion/boom in the developing countries. The population is growing in geometric progression while the production of goods is growing in arithmetic progression.

If the stroke damages the brain area that controls motor skills, a patient may have trouble walking. The irreversible loss of biodiversity has a serious 15. impact on the ability of maintaining species, including humans to survive. Humans depend on species diversity and healthy ecosystems providing food, clean water and air and fertile soil for agriculture. In addition, humans benefit greatly from different medicines.

Despite many difficulties resulting from/caused by severe weather, the agricultural production in our province has made a number of positive changes, playing a vital role in the economy, ensuring the food security, creating the stable income and life of the majority of the local peasants. The orientation of transforming the agriculture structure has brought remarkable achievements. 17. When the problem of worldwide population growth is mentioned, attention is almost always paid to fertility rates. Yet another side of the population problem causing growing concerns is the movement across the national borders of millions of people in search of a better life. They have nourished a dream of moving to greener pastures.

But for elderly people who tend to stay home and meet other people less often, the Internet is the most suitable tool. 21. According to the Ministry of Education and Training, Vietnam is planning to implement bilingual curriculum in some tertiary subjects and build two international-level universities which will be at the same standards as other universities in the region and the world.

The establishment of the two international- level universities is one of 33 action plans devised by Ministry of Education and Training in efforts to implement the National Assembly’s education laws. 23. The first Mekong Sub-region Fair was held at the Vietnamese Exhibition Fair Centre where major products such as agricultural products, sea products and handicrafts were introduced.

According to Vietnam News Agency, Vietnam is hoping to receive 3.2 million foreign tourists this year with a record flow of international arrivals reaching 2.9 million, a 19% increase as opposed to last year.

Before 1988, the effect of the banking system on the development and macro-economic management was minimal. In order to encourage the banking system to play a more constructive role, the government has taken new measures including the reorganization of the banking system, the introduction of restrictive credit policies, and new policies on interest and free trade of gold in market.
  17. 30.  It  is  significant  that  these  overseas  Vietnamese always direct their attention to their  homeland, cherish a close link with their families  and  preserve  the  cultural  identity  which  typifies  the  Vietnamese.  In  addition  to  their  support  for  their relatives, a number of overseas Vietnamese  have  contributed  to  the  construction  of  their  country  and  taken  part  in  relief  movements  to  help  those  who  suffer  from  natural  calamities.  They have also participated in the charity work.
  18. 31.  The  survey  conducted  by  the  VWU  shows  that  traditional  contraceptive  methods  have  been  widely  used.  The  survey  also  indicates  that  39%  of  married  women used modern methods; the most frequently­used  method  is  intra  uterine  device  (IUD). 32.  Nowadays  people  are  inclined  to  worry  too  much  about their physical health. However, I would like to  lay  stress  on  the  importance  of  psychological  health. Being mentally healthy is very important, and  a truly healthy man is one who can enjoy the proper  equilibrium between his body and mind. 
  19. 33. President Tran Duc Luong yesterday sent a message to thank President Hu Jintao for China’s assistance in rescuing Vietnamese fishermen in distress during Typhoon Chanchu. The Chinese Government and related authorities quickly mobilized rescue forces and saved hundreds of Vietnamese fishermen. "We are deeply moved by the warm sentiments and humanitarian action expressed by the Government and the people of China. On behalf of the Party, the State and people of Viet Nam, I send you, the Party, the State and people of China, and especially the rescue workers, our deep gratitude," said Luong.

In a message sent to authorities and the people of Da Nang, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai, Luong praised the efforts of rescue workers and relevant sectors in helping fishermen stranded out at sea to return home safely. 35. Deputy Chairman of the National Committee for Search and Rescue yesterday said three Vietnamese ships with 104 fishermen were expected to moor in Da Nang this morning. He also said a total of 10 fishing ships had sunk and six others were still missing. The rescue team is continuing search and rescue work with the hope of finding survivors.
