Disagreements are a part of life. Even loving spouses, good co-worker, and friendly neighbors do
not always agree. Disagreements can become unbearable when one person will not see the other’s point
of view. You should control a disagreement by making sure your reactions are fair and kind. Ask
yourself: “ What is good for me and my relationship with this person ?”
đề: 501- Trang 2/4
-Control your emotions. During a disagreement, strong feeling can get in the way of careful thinking.
Be aware of strong emotions and learn to control them. Getting mad and losing temper do not
help things.
-Understand the other person’s position. Before you disagree, try to understand how the other person sees
the situation. Put yourself in his place. That will keep you from drawing conclusions about his motives or
beliefs.
-Communicate clearly and effectively. Do not talk too much to the other person. Instead, share your view
in clear, short statements. Give the other person a chance to respond to each point you make.
-Listen carefully during a disagreement instead of thinking about what you are going to say next. Think
about what the other person is saying or feeling. Try to learn something from the other person’s ideas.
Ask if you heard right. Ask the other person to correct you if what you heard is wrong.
-Do not try to be the winner. If both people feel like being winners after the discussion ends, the
disagreement will continue for a long time.
