I. Objectives:
- To practice listening comprehension to the ordinal numbers
and the dates and months
- After the lesson, Ss can speak and write well the ordinal
numbers, months and dates.
II. Preparation:
- Material: Textbook, coursebook, sub- board
- Equipments: tape and cassette.
III. Teaching procedure:

2. Oral test:
- S1 : say the given phone numbers.
- S2 & S3 : make a dialogue to ask and answer the phone
numbers.
3. New lesson:
A. Warm- up:
- Give a game for Ss to practice with the numbers.
B. Presentation:
* Pre- Listening :
- Ss: look at the picture in this part and listen to the T.
- T: explains the task.
- T: plays the tape once for Ss to practice listening.
- T: explains: the ordinal numbers are used to show the dates in
months . They are formed by adding “th” after cardinal
numbers.some exceptions:
First (1st): thứ nhất, ngày mùng một
Second (2nd):thứ hai, ngày mùng hai
Third (3rd): thứ ba, ngày mùng ba
Fifth (5th) : thứ năm, ngày mùng năm
Ninth (9th) : thứ chin, ngày mùng chín
Twelfth (12th) : thứ 12, ngày 12
Twentieth (20th) :thứ 20, ngày 20
- T: notes the way to read and write the suffix (th)
- T: plays the tape and pauses at each number for Ss to read
aloud.
- T: calls some Ss to read those numbers aloud.
- T: gets Ss to practice reading aloud through some big festivals
in VN.
* While-Listening :
- T: introduces by giving a question:
What is this? It is a calendar
- T: asks Ss to listen through the tape once.
- T: asks Ss to write down the dates they have heard.
- Ss: compare their answers with their partners’.
- T: calls some Ss to give their answers.
- T: plays the tape again, and pauses at each date for Ss to
check their answers.
- T: gives the right answers:
- The first of July.
- The nineteenth.
- The sixth.
- The fourteenth.
- The seventeenth.
- The thirty- first.
- Ss: copy the answers into their notebooks.
* Post- Listening :
- T: divides class into 4 groups .
- T: asks Ss to write the ordinal numbers .
- T: calls some Ss in each group to read aloud and asks the
members in other groups to listen and write down . The group
which writes correctly most is winner .
4. Consolidation:
- T reminds Ss the ordinal numbers.
5. Homework:
- Write the cardinal numbers from 1 to 20.
- Write the months from January to December.
- Do Ex in the workbook.
