Cool Jazz (giữa những năm 50) về căn bản là giống Bebop song tiết tấu chậm, ít hợp âm phức tạp hơn. Đại diện tiêu biểu cho Cool Jazz là một số albums thời kỳ đầu của trumpeter Miles Davis như Bags Groove, Milestones, Round about Midnight, Birth of the Cool..., trumpeter Chet Baker (My Funny Valentine, Jazz around midnight...), pianist, composer Gil Evans và guitarist West Montgomery....
