Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) with their unique properties represent great promise in biological applications. However, the high toxicity of AgNPs still remains a major bottleneck and hinders their basic usage. In the present study, to improve the cytotoxicity of AgNPs, a thin layer of polydopamine (PDOP) was proposed as shell material. For this, the as-prepared citrate-stabilized AgNPs were dispersed in dopamine solution under alkaline conditions. The thickness of the PDOP layer could be manipulated simply by tuning the polymerization time.

Mixed-phased Inx Sey thin film containing InSe, In2 Se3 and In6 Se7 phases was prepared by M-CBD method and characterized by X-ray diffraction, AFM, optical spectroscopy and J-V measurements. Structural, optical and electrical conductance properties were modified by annealing the films at different temperatures. Optical and morphological properties were also investigated dependently on temperature and concentration of cationic precursor solution.

A total of 63 newly synthesized compounds were screened in terms of PARP inhibition by cellular PARylation assay in the HeLa cell line. It was found that 19 compounds significantly inhibited the H2O2 -induced cellular PARylation. The chemosensitizer effect of these compounds in cancer cells treated with doxorubicin (doxo) was investigated. It was found that the combination of potent PARP inhibitors with doxo potentiated a cytotoxic effect, similar to that of olaparib.

The results showed that AgNPs were effective in eliminating infectious microorganisms on B. tuberous explants; which were identified included 4 species of fungi (Fusarium sp., Aspergillus aculeatus, Trichoderma sp. and Penicillium sp.) and 1 species of bacteria (Pseudomonas sp.). At concentrations of 200 ppm and 300 ppm, AgNPs were not only effective in disinfection but also increased the induction rate of somatic embryogenesis in flower stalk TCL explants (approximately 40.00%); a similar effect was observed in stem TCL explants at the same concentration.

This paper outlines the synthesis of the glass/FTO/Au/ and of the glass/FTO/Si/Au/ multilayers and some obtained experimental results. Based on the measured results we observed that the structure of the sputtered Si layer is an amorphous phase meanwhile the structure of the sputtered Au layer is a crystallized phase.

The effect of stacked Ga-doped MgxZn1xO (GMZO) thin films being the n-partner buffer layer and of the transparent conducting oxide (TCO) layer on the performance of CdTe thin film solar cells has been investigated. The diversity of the electrical and optical properties of GMZO films versus Ga and Mg doping concentrations suggested the use of low-Ga-doped MgxZn1xO (LGMZO) films as a high resistance transparent buffer layer.

In addition, the effects of explant age and lighting condition on shoot regeneration were also investigated. After 8 weeks of culture, the results showed that shoot regeneration rate (100%) and shoot multiplication coefficient (13.33) of the in vitro leaf-tTCL-4 were higher than those of other treatments and control. The shoot regeneration rate of P. edulis Sims. also varied with the change of explant age. The highest shoot regeneration rate (100%) was obtained from leaf explants of 1.5-month-old shoots after 8 weeks of culture.

Scanning electron micrographic observations of renal arteries of goat and pig which revealed a thin tunica intima enveloped by packed layer of smooth muscle cells in media in both species. Endothelium was wavy in outline on internal aspect of renal arteries in goats and pigs. It presented cushion like foldings which were aligned across the longitudinal axis of the artery. Outer parts of tunica media were anchored by fine collagen fibrils and elastic fibers to the collagen tissue in adventitia. In case of pig, tunica adventitia of renal arteries was relatively thicker than that of the goat.

Histological features of renal arteries of goat revealed a typical muscular artery structure with three layers within outwards viz., tunica intima, media and adventitia. Abundant subendothelial connective tissue was limited by clear undulating internal elastic membrane. Tunica media in all three renal arterial segments i.e., proximal, middle and distal from aorta to the renal hilus was thicker. More than thirty rows of smooth muscle cells were arranged in circular fashion in tunica media. Their outer boundary was limited by fragmented thin wavy outer elastic membrane.

Herein, the design and simulation of graphene/InP thin film solar cells with a novel periodic array of nanorods and plasmonic back-reflectors of the nano-semi sphere was proposed. In this structure, a single-layer of the graphene sheet was placed on the vertical nanorods of InP to form a Schottky junction. The electromagnetic field was determined using solving three-dimensional Maxwell’s equations discretized by the finite difference method (FDM). The enhancement of light trapping in the absorbing layer was illustrated, thereby increasing the short circuit current to a maximum value of 31.

An efficient and reproducible plant regeneration system was developed from cells or tissues of agronomically important Indian sorghum genotypes including 2 commercial cultivars (NSH27 & K8) of Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench. Callus induction and plant regeneration were achieved on transverse thin cell layers (tTCL) of roots from aseptically germinated 7-day-old seedlings.
