inincreasing abomasalmotilitythanthose atany other

Thus,this study wasperformedtoevaluatethe effectsof
acupuncture and moxibustion forthe correction ofnaturally
occurredabomasaldisplacement in dairycattle.

Results
Although twocowswithleftabomasaldisplacement in

Discussion
Severalsurgicalcorrectiveproceduresincluding
omentopexy [2],abomasopexy [7,10],blind suture[13],and
barsuture[3,12]havebeen usedasroutinemethodsfor
treatmentofleftor rightabomasaldisplacement.

InKorea,abomasaldisplacement iscommon becauseof
high-grainfeeding formilk production and keeping under
confinement.However,therehavebeenmany problems
pointed out insurgicalcorrectionsofabomasaldisplace-
ment.Theyinclude a drop intheprice,owner'sanxiety,
high costand postoperative complicationsincluding
reoccurrence [1].
Ithasbeen knownthatacupuncture atacupointsrelated
with digestiveorgansincreasedtheirmotility[6]and was
effectiveincorrection ofcertain diseases suchasruminal
tympany and atony [4,8].Although acupuncture at'Piyu',
'Weiyu' and 'Guan yuan yu' resultedinless corrective effect
thansurgicalproceduresin dairycow withrightabomasal
displacement,it hadexcellentcorrective effectsin dairycow
withleftabomasaldisplacement.
Moxibustion,knownto havetherapeutic effectson
delayed uterineinvolution in postpartumdairycows[5],had
similareffectasacupuncturein dairycowswithabomasal
displacement.Furthermore,itsapplication may beless
costly,more convenientand simplerthansurgicalproce-
dures.
Therefore,it isconcludedthatelectroacupuncture and
moxibustion atPiyu',Weiyu' and Guan yuan yu' may
have excellentcorrective effectson abomasaldisplacement
in dairycattle and theymay bevaluabletherapeutic
alternativesavailableinstead ofsurgicalmethods.
