The law extends private coverage for young adults. Until now, insurers often stopped covering children under their parents’ health plans at age 19, sometimes older for full-time students. Beginning six months after enactment, the law allowed dependent children to stay on their parents’ health plan up to age 26, depending on the parent’s insurance policy open enrollment date. Ø The law eliminates pre-existing condition exclusions and annual/lifetime limits.
