Automated weather system

In this study, we applied four stepwise methods to estimate DCIA for a test urban catchment where the methods starts from identifying isolated impervious areas surrounded by pervious areas using GIS.

On 9 December 2018, a heavy rainfall event occurred in central Viet Nam, and at Da Nang, a record–breaking rainfall of 972 mm was observed in 24 hours. The operational precipitation analysis at the Viet Nam Meteorological and Hydrological Administration (VNMHA) on the day considerably underestimated the intense rains. We checked causes of underestimation and modified the precipitation analysis by revising the use of observation data from Automated Weather Stations (AWS) and meteorological radar data.

An automated data acquisition system was installed to monitor the indoor air temperatures and humidities, HAC operation, building pressures, and outdoor weather. An automated tracer-gas system for continuous monitoring of house air change rates also was installed. This system injected sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) into the house every 4 h to 6 h, allowed it to mix to a uniform concentration, and then monitored the concentration decay in several zones.

A study to measure indoor concentrations and emission rates of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including formaldehyde, was conducted in a new, unoccupied manufactured house installed at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) campus. The house was instrumented to continuously monitor indoor temperature and relative humidity, heating and air conditioning system operation, and outdoor weather. It also was equipped with an automated tracer gas injection and detection system to estimate air change rates every 2 h.
