We evaluated the digestibility of plant oils and their influence on the growth of and fatty acid composition in common carp. Apparent digestibility coefficients (ADC) of lipids were determined in carp (200.2 ± 40.0g) fed with cod liver oil (CLO), linseed oil (LO), sunflower oil (SFO), or sesame oil (SO).

QTL variations for growth-related traits in eight distinct families of common carp (Cyprinus carpio)
Comparing QTL analyses of multiple pair-mating families can provide a better understanding of important allelic variations and distributions. However, most QTL mapping studies in common carp have been based on analyses of individual families.

The allotetraploid hybrid fish (4nAT) that was created in a previous study through an intergeneric cross between red crucian carp (Carassius auratus red var., ♀) and common carp (Cyprinus carpio L., ♂) provided an excellent platform to investigate the effect of hybridization and polyploidization on the evolution of 5S rDNA.

Distant hybridization can generate transgressive hybrid phenotypes that lead to the formation of new populations or species with increased genetic variation. In this study, we produced an experimental hybrid goldfish (EG) by distant crossing of red crucian carp (Carassius auratus) × common carp (Cyprinus carpio) followed by gynogenesis.

The establishment of the bisexual fertile fish hybrid lineage including the allodiploid and allotetraploid hybrids, from interspecific hybridization of red crucian carp (Carassius auratus red var. 2n = 100, 2n = AA) (♀) × common carp (Cyprinus carpio L. 2n = 100, 2n = BB) (♂), provided a good platform to investigate genetic relationship between the parents and their hybrid progenies.

Interferon regulatory factor 2 (IRF2) is an important transcription factor, which can regulate the IFN response and plays a role in antiviral innate immunity in teleost. In the present study, the full-length cDNA sequence of IRF2 (CcIRF2) was characterized in common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.).

Interferon (IFN) regulatory factors (IRFs), as transcriptional regulatory factors, play important roles in regulating the expression of type I IFN and IFN- stimulated genes (ISGs) in innate immune responses. In addition, they participate in cell growth and development and regulate oncogenesis.

Immunoglobulins (Igs) distributed among systemic immune tissues and mucosal immune tissues play important roles in protecting teleosts from infections in the pathogen-rich aquatic environment. Teleost IgZ/IgT subclasses with different tissue expression patterns may have different immune functions.

The most optimal results in terms of nutritional value of fish meat were found in open water carp, in the spring, due to high PUFA content, especially linoleic (n-6), as well as EPA and DHA (n-3) fatty acids. This is the result of diet, because carp consumes phyto and zooplankton from the lake's benthos, which are especially rich in essential fatty acids.

A high-density genetic linkage map is essential for QTL fine mapping, comparative genome analysis, identification of candidate genes and marker-assisted selection for economic traits in aquaculture species. The Yangtze River common carp (Cyprinus carpio haematopterus) is one of the most important aquacultured strains in China. However, quite limited genetics and genomics resources have been developed for genetic improvement of economic traits in such strain.

Present study was aimed to investigate the effects of sub lethal concentrations of dimethoate, an organophosphate pesticide in juvenile common carps (Cyprinus carpio var. communis) (10 ± 2 g). Fishes were exposed to the sub lethal concentration of the pesticide available as per the literature under acute toxicity tests.

The aim of this study was to determine the pathogenicity of koi ranavirus (KIRV) in common carp (Cyprinus carpio L) and rohu (Labeo rohita H). In the present study, common carp and rohu fingerlings were experimentally infected with KIRV by intraperitoneal injection with 50 µl of the virus preparation having an infectious dose of 106.9 TCID50/ml.

Sixteen species of fish belong to nine families have been stained. This study focused, in particular, on two species which are Cyprinus carpio and Tilapia zilli due to their existence in the Iraqi internal waters. Alcian blue and Alizarin red have been used in staining the samples of study. This study was prepared to describe the differences between Cyprinus carpio and Tilapa zilli families. Some of the anatomic features have been appeared by which the diversity and the difference can be studied in the muscular tissue and the skeleton for both species and some other species of the study.

FWH was incorporated into test diet, as an energy source, at different levels (@ 0 (T1), 40 (T2), 80(T3), 120 (T4) and 160 (T5) g/kg test diet, as a replacement for equal amount of rice bran. Fish were fed 3-5% of body weight for 120 days.

In the present investigations, whole body extract of earthworm, Eisenia fetida was tested for antibacterial activity against fish bacterial pathogens. The bacteria were isolated from different tissues of infected common carp, Cyprinus carpio and identified by gram staining method. A total of eight pathogenic bacteria were isolated. Antimicrobial activity of the extract was studied under in vitro conditions by well diffusion assay.
