  • The objective function was to minimize the sum of weighted straight-line distances from the first or second warehouse to either vendors or customers. The straight-line distance was determined using the principle of Pythagorean triples and was weighted by the shipment frequency and the shipment cost rate.

  • Since the recombinant protein was discovered, it has become more popular in many aspects of life science. The value of global pharmaceutical market was $87 billion in 2008 and the sales for industrial enzyme exceeded $4 billion in 2012. This is strong evidence showing the great potential of recombinant protein.

  • Distance based unsupervised clustering of gene expression data is commonly used to identify heterogeneity in biologic samples. However, high noise levels in gene expression data and relatively high correlation between genes are often encountered, so traditional distances such as Euclidean distance may not be effective at discriminating the biological differences between samples.

  • In the present study all the 30 genotypes were grouped into six non overlapping clusters based on non- hierarchical Euclidean cluster analysis. Maximum numbers of genotypes (7) were grouped in cluster-I, IV and VI followed by cluster-II (5), cluster-V (3) and cluster III with one genotype. Inter-cluster distances was highest between cluster IV and VI (916.73) followed by III and V (846.80). Among the 21 characters studied, grain yield plant-1 , stover yield plant-1 , number of kernels per row and ear height contributed maximum towards the total divergence.

  • Rose apple (Syzygium jambos) is a popular fruit native to Southeast Asia. The blossoms contain hundreds of stamens and the fruits are crisp, juicy with distinct rose scent. The fruits are palatable with a moderate sweet taste. Rose apple contains low fibre level, appreciable level of vitamin C, some level of acid, protein and ash content. In-situ characterization and preliminary evaluation are performed following Biodiversity International Tropical Fruit Descriptor. Total 6 numbers of accessions were taken under the study, the tree age varied from 18yrs to above 20yrs.

  • The 60 elite chickpea genotypes were morphologically characterized and classified as per the guidelines for the conduct of DUS test of chickpea (Cicerarietinum L.)by the PPV&FRA, 2007, GOI. Among 13 DUS traits observed; seven traits were found tri-morphic, four traits di-morphic and two traitspolymorphic among 60 chickpea genotypes indicated the existence of remarkable amount of genetic variability that have great potential to assign distinctive morphological profiles which could be used for varietal identification and characterization.

  • The performance of computer aided ECG analysis depends on the precise and accurate delineation of QRS-complexes. This paper presents an application of K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) algorithm as a classifier for detection of QRS-complex in ECG. The proposed algorithm is evaluated on two manually annotated standard databases such as CSE and MIT-BIH Arrhythmia database. In this work, a digital band-pass filter is used to reduce false detection caused by interference present in ECG signal and further gradient of the signal is used as a feature for QRS-detection.

  • A Gaussian mixture model (GMM)-based classification technique is employed for a quantitative global assessment of brain tissue changes by using pixel intensities and contrast generated by b-values in diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). A hemisphere approach is also proposed. A GMM identifies the variability in the main brain tissues at a macroscopic scale rather than searching for tumours or affected areas. The asymmetries of the mixture distributions between the hemispheres could be used as a sensitive, faster tool for early diagnosis.

  • The designed FNLM algorithm is based on local region considerations, including the Euclidean distance in the gamma-ray image and use of the encoded information. To evaluate the noise characteristics, the normalized noise power spectrum (NNPS), contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), and coefficient of variation (COV) were used. According to the NNPS result, the lowest values can be obtained using the FNLM noise reduction algorithm.
