  • In this paper, we develop the Mickens’ methodology to construct a dynamically consistent Non-Standard Finite Difference (NSFD) scheme for a recognized computer virus propagation model. It is proved that the constructed NSFD scheme correctly preserves essential mathematical features of the continuous-time model, which are positivity, boundedness and asymptotic stability.

  • The cascade computer model (CCM) was designed as a machine-learning feature platform for prediction of drug diffusivity from the mucoadhesive formulations. Three basic models (the statistical regression model, the K nearest neighbor model and the modified version of the back propagation neural network) in CCM operate sequentially in close collaboration with each other, employing the estimated value obtained from the afore-positioned base model as an input value to the next-positioned base model in the cascade.

  • This paper investigates a novel forward adaptive neural model which is applied for modeling and implementing the supervisory controller of the hybrid wind microgrid system. The nonlinear features of the hybrid wind microgrid system are thoroughly modeled based on the adaptive identification process using experimental input-output training data.

  • the second edition of atoms, radiation, and radiation protection has several important new features. si units are employed throughout, the older units being de-fined but used sparingly. there are two new chapters. one is on statistics for health physics. it starts with the description of radioactive decay as a bernoulli process and treats sample counting, propagation of error, limits of detection, type-i and type-ii errors, instrument response, and monte carlo radiation-transport computations.

  • The quality of phased array and synthetic aperture ultrasonic images is limited by several factors determined by the sound propagation physics and diffraction laws. Image quality is mainly determined by: Resolution, which depends on signal bandwidth (in the axial direction) and on the aperture extent (in the lateral direction); Dynamic range, which is bounded by the ratio of the main to the sidelobes level and is related to the smallest features detection capability.

  • We investigate prototype-driven learning for primarily unsupervised grammar induction. Prior knowledge is specified declaratively, by providing a few canonical examples of each target phrase type. This sparse prototype information is then propagated across a corpus using distributional similarity features, which augment an otherwise standard PCFG model. We show that distributional features are effective at distinguishing bracket labels, but not determining bracket locations.

  • We describe a novel approach for inducing unsupervised part-of-speech taggers for languages that have no labeled training data, but have translated text in a resource-rich language. Our method does not assume any knowledge about the target language (in particular no tagging dictionary is assumed), making it applicable to a wide array of resource-poor languages. We use graph-based label propagation for cross-lingual knowledge transfer and use the projected labels as features in an unsupervised model (BergKirkpatrick et al., 2010). ...

  • Via an oracle experiment, we show that the upper bound on accuracy of a CCG parser is significantly lowered when its search space is pruned using a supertagger, though the supertagger also prunes many bad parses. Inspired by this analysis, we design a single model with both supertagging and parsing features, rather than separating them into distinct models chained together in a pipeline.

  • Bootstrapping a classifier from a small set of seed rules can be viewed as the propagation of labels between examples via features shared between them. This paper introduces a novel variant of the Yarowsky algorithm based on this view. It is a bootstrapping learning method which uses a graph propagation algorithm with a well defined objective function.

  • Described as a structural/LID hybrid, the Modular Wetland System – Linear is a revolutionary stormwater treatment system. This treatment system utilizes an innovative combination of physically passive and natural biological treatment processes, including the use of a breakthrough filter media, BioMediaGREEN, which acts as a pre-treatment media filter for the enhanced 4th generation sub-surface flow wetland. These features combined with other various treatment and flow control technologies has lead to a system that maximizes pollutant removal and minimizes maintenance. ...

  • Within the framework of the Walecka model (QHD-I)[1] the renormalized effective Dirac equation and the kinetic equation for fermion are presented. In fact, the fermion propagator in the medium is dramatically different from that in the vacuum. The main feature is the treating of the fermion distribution in non equilibrium, which depends on the interaction rate involving temperature.

  • DNA replication, the process of copying one double stranded DNA molecule to produce two identical copies, is at the heart of cell proliferation. This book highlights new insights into the replication process in eukaryotes, from the assembly of pre-replication complex and features of DNA replication origins, through polymerization mechanisms, to propagation of epigenetic states. It also covers cell cycle control of replication initiation and includes the latest on mechanisms of replication in prokaryotes. The association between genome replication and transcription is also addressed.

  • Low-frequency acoustic energy released within the Earth's crust and mantle mostly propagates - depending on the density and elasticity of the medium - through several types of seismic waves categorized as body waves (longitudinal P and transverse S) or surface waves (long L and ground roll R). The importance of seismic wave research lies not only in our ability to understand and predict earthquakes and tsunamis, it also reveals information on the Earth's composition and features in much the same way as it led to the discovery of Mohorovicic's discontinuity....

  • A novel video smoke detection method using both color and motion features is presented. The result of optical flow is assumed to be an approximation of motion field. Background estimation and color-based decision rule are used to determine candidate smoke regions. The Lucas Kanade optical flow algorithm is proposed to calculate the optical flow of candidate regions. And the motion features are calculated from the optical flow results and use to differentiate smoke from some other moving objects.

  • KRONE cables are low skew products, i.e. the difference in propagation delay between the individual pairs is very low. This is increasingly being requested for Gigabit Ethernet. The suitability of the cable for high-bit-rate transmission systems ensures a high degree of future proofing. Additional features are the slim design and low weight of the cables. Each pair is individually shielded with foil (STP) and around the stranded pairs (PIMF) we designed this kind with a extra foil.
