Coral reef-related fishery resources in Quy Nhon bay were assessed at four communes in 2016, using an investigation note with additional input from consultations with experienced local fishermen. This information was ground-truthed during field survey assessments of spawning and nursery grounds of target resources (December 2016 and April–June 2017).

Effect of kind and concentration of culture media, and plant growth regulators on in vitro response was studied in an economically important seaweed species viz. Gracilaria corticata var. cylindrica. Filter sterilized autoclaved artificial seawater medium at 100 % concentration (A2) was found to be the most optimum for in vitro culture as the cultured explants showed superiority in terms of growth and photosynthetic pigment content, apart from inducing lateral bud formation.

In this paper, we report on biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles using Gracilaria corticata (Red seaweed) at room temperature along with photo-catalytic degradation of Malachite green dye. UV spectral analysis showed peak at 380 nm with special reference to the excitation of surfaces plasmon vibration by silver nanoparticles. The morphology of silver nanoparticles was found to be spherical and ranges about 100 nm as confirmed by HR-SEM. Positive zeta potential value of 7.7mV suggests that the nanoparticles are moderately stable in colloidal solution.

Manamelkudi, located along the Palk Strait of East coast of Tamil Nadu serve as treasure houses for valuable marine resources like sea grass and seaweeds. A study was undertaken at Agricultural College and Research Institute, Kudumiyanmalai during 2016-17 to evaluate the nutritional composition of the seaweeds in order to use them as potential food ingredients. Seaweed samples were collected from Manamelkudi village of Pudukkottai district at different time intervals i.e.

An experiment was conducted to assess the growth performance of quails on supplementation of seaweeds. 600 numbers of day old quail chicks were randomly divided into four groups with five replicates and 25 chicks in each replicate. Seaweeds viz., Chaetomorpha antennina, Sargassum wightii and Gracilaria corticata were collected from Gulf of Mannar region and was dried and included in the ration @ 3 % level and treated as group - 2, 3 and 4, respectively. Quail on normal ration was kept as control (Group -1). The trial was conducted for six weeks period.

The indiscriminate use of agrochemicals since green revolution resulted in adverse effect on the soil fertility, crop productivity, quality of produce and more specifically on the environment system. The current scenario under such situation firmly emphasizes the need to adopt eco-friendly agricultural practices for food production by considering the sustainability of soil and environment. The use of Seaweed is considered as low cost input for plant growth and development due to presence of many nutrients as well as plant growth hormones which encourage the growth of the plants.

The antifungal activity of Gracilaria cervicornis, Gracilaria gracilis, Endocladia muricata is tested against Macrophomina phaseolina and Lasiodiplodia theobromae. The mean inhibion zones induced by seaweed extracts on the tested pathogens revealed that methanolic extract of G. cervicornis had highest zone than its acetone & aquous extracts followed by methanoilc extract of G. gracilis against M. phaseolina whereas no inhibition by E. muricata. The methanolic extract of G. cervicornis recorded inhibition zone of 20.7 mm against M. phaseolina whereas in L. theobromae it was 17.6 mm.

One important innovation of green construction material is natural polymer modified mortar. In this research, polymer modified mortar used natural polymer from seaweeds, they are Eucheuma Cottonii (gel) and Gracilaria Sp. The research conducted in two parts, pre-experiment and main-experiment. Pre-experiment aimed to investigate compressive strength of natural polymer modified mortar with seaweed gel (Eucheuma Cottonii) and seaweed powder (Gracilaria Sp.). The pre-experiment followed by main-experiment which investigated compressive strength and splitting tensile strength.
