Ginger, an indigenous plant, is an important spice crop of the world. Traditionally ginger is propagated by using portions of mother rhizomes called as sets. Each healthy set of 2.5 to 5 cm long, weighing 20-25 g and having two or three buds each are directly sown in the main filed. Though transplanting in ginger is not conventional, it is found profitable. A transplanting technique in ginger by using single bud sprouts (about 5 g) has been standardized to produce good quality planting material with reduced cost.

Hybrid approach advocates combining two or more traditional technologies to overcome the limitations of the conventional practice. The devised Hybrid TIG MAG arc welding process with the help of an indigenous fixture overcomes the shortcomings of the conventional arc welding. The success of any hybrid technology depends on synergistic parameter interactions which demand a rigorous process control through parameter optimization. The devised process is controlled by 13 major parameters. Optimization of all the process controlling parameters is a resource consuming activity.

This low rate of improvement has discouraged implementation of selection schemes for indigenous tropical breeds, since the overall increase in production attainable by selection in cows yielding 500–1000 kg is not of any great magnitude. It should, however, be recalled that even European breeds were as unproductive as the tropical breeds before the application of selection programs and it is the application of planned selection programs that has brought the advances that we see today.

The most commonly used technique for planting is stump budding using improved varieties or clones (Status of… 2000). The quality of the planting material is the most important factor affecting the profitability and economics of the plantation and has to be judiciously selected depending on the local situation. Different situations warrant planting of particular types that have the capability to resist the adverse factors and produce good results. Accordingly different varieties like RRII 105, PB 217, GT 1 are commonly cultivated.
