This book deals with the idea and practice of proof in mathematics. The book can be used for self-training. It assumes nothing, and teaches you everything you need. How it teaches you is another story. Stan Gibilisco has the gift and the passion of a coach. He provides the right example and exercise as soon as you see something new; by going through it with him, and again on your own in the quiz at the end of each chapter, you make it your own. Gibilisco takes you there, and is with you each step of the way.

Ebook "Help your kids with Math: A unique step-by-step visual guide" concentrates on the math tackled in schools between the ages of 9 and 16. But it does so in a gripping, engaging, and visual way. Its purpose is to teach math by stealth. It presents mathematical ideas, techniques, and procedures so that they are immediately absorbed and understood. It helps parents understand and remember the subject and thus help their children. If parents too gain something in the process, then so much the better.

Ebook "Concrete mathematics (Second edition)" was originally intended as an antidote to \Abstract Mathematics," since concrete classical results were rapidly being swept out of the modern mathematical curriculum by a new wave of abstract ideas popularly called the \New Math." Abstract mathematics is a wonderful subject, and there's nothing wrong with it: It's beautiful, general, and useful.

This paper combines the synergies of three mathematical and computational generalizations. The concepts of fractional calculus, memristor and information visualization extend the classical ideas of integro-differential calculus, electrical elements and data representation, respectively. The study embeds these notions in a common framework, with the objective of organizing and describing the "continuum" of fractional order elements (FOE).

In this chapter, we turn our attention to option valuation issues. To understand most option valuation models requires considerable mathematical and statistical background. Still, many of the ideas and insights of these models can be demonstrated in simple examples, and we will concentrate on these.

Renewable energy has become a promising way to meet growing energy needs in the society. However, operation of power supply systems based on renewable energy sources (RES) depends on a number of uncontrolled factors. This imposes certain restrictions on applications and causes applicationrelated challenges. At this point, the search for the best combination of applied energy sources has been still a key issue. Methodological approaches to the solution to this problem are diverse.

Solutions of social media enhanced learning are widely studied in Hypermedia Laboratory at Tampere University of Technology (TUT). In recent years Web 2.0 based social media services (e.g., Facebook® , LinkedIn® , Last.fm® , etc.) have become popular, especially among young people. Based on this phenomenon TUT Hypermedia researchers have developed a social networking site for TUT freshmen aiming to provide convenient tools for interaction and study support. The first idea was to offer a free-of-charge social web site in the context of learning Basic Engineering Mathematics at TUT.

Collaborative knowledge sharing requires that dialogues successfully cross organizational barriers and information silos. Successful communication in person or in a virtual community involves a willingness to share ideas and consider diverse viewpoints. This research examines a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) content management system called NASATalk, which offers public and private blog posts, file sharing, asynchronous discussion, and live chat services.

This paper investigates an alternative modeling of the system (firm), combining neural networks and fuzzy controllers, i.e. using neuro-fuzzy models. Classical modeling is based on mathematical models that describe the behavior of the firm under consideration. The main idea of fuzzy control, on the other hand, is to build a model of a human control expert who is capable of controlling the process without thinking in a mathematical model.

In the early 20th century, Hermann Minkowski (1864-1909) proposed an idea about a new metric, one of many metrics of non-Euclidean geometry that he developed called Taxicab geometry. The purpose of this paper is to design activities so that students can construct the concept of distance and realise practical applications of Taxicab geometry.
