This study aims to develop an HPFRM with low polypropylene fiber content by using locally available ingredients in Southern Vietnam to address the deficiencies commonly observed in traditional cement grout mortars. Three mixture proportions were prepared with different water-to-binder (w/b) ratios of 0.2, 0.25, and 0.3. Then, the performance of HPFRM was evaluated in both fresh and hardened stages.

Degeneration of cartilage will change load distribution, affecting bone remodeling progress and trabecular structure and strength. However, in human primary osteoporosis, whether cartilage lesions would also affect properties beneath trabecular bone remains unknown. In this study, we explored the differences in local trabecular properties between osteoporosis patients with and without cartilage lesions.

Based on the increase in tensile strength and toughness (43% and 30%, respectively), the feasibility of the hybrid nanofibers containing Single-walled carbon nanotubes and Nylon 66 on reinforcing cementitious materials has been clarified. The well-linking effect of nanofibers in the microstructure of hardened cement pastes has been found by scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis and well-explained for the increase in mechanical strengths. Besides, field emission transmission electron microscope (FE-TEM) analysis has also been conducted to analyze the properties of the hybrid nanofibers.

The study aimed at investigating the microstructure and mechanical properties of NeodymiumDoped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (Nd:YAG) laser welded high strength low alloy (HSLA) SA516 grade 70 boiler steel. The weld joint for a 4 mm thick plate was successfully produced using minimum laser power of 2 kW by employing a single pass without any weld preheat treatment. The micrographs revealed the presence of martensite phase in the weld fusion zone which could be due to faster cooling rate of the laser weldment.

Al-Li alloys are attractive for military and aerospace applications because their properties are superior to those of conventional Al alloys. Their exceptional properties are attributed to the addition of Li into the Al matrix, and the technical reasons for adding Li to the Al matrix are presented. The developmental history and applications of Al-Li alloys over the last few years are reviewed. The main issue of Al-Li alloys is anisotropic behavior, and the main reasons for the anisotropic tensile properties and practical methods to reduce it are also introduced.

The decrease in strength of tile adhesive mortars during wet storage was investigated. In a first approach, the water resistance of the polymer phases was tested on structures isolated from the mortar and in situ. It was observed that cellulose ether and polyvinyl alcohol structures are water-soluble. Subsequent investigations on polymer mobility within the mortar showed that the migrating pore water transports cellulose ether and polyvinyl alcohol during periods of water intrusion and drying. This leads to enrichments at the mortar – substrate interface.

In this study, two types of acrylic latexes, PA (polyacrylate) and PU/PA (polyurethane modified PA), are investigated in their influences on mechanical properties of mortar under different interaction mechanisms. In light of a previous study, the polymer–cement hydrates interaction mechanisms in PA and PU/PA modified mortars are illustrated respectively, and the microstructures are simulated using a computer model.

A laboratory study is performed to evaluate the influence of elevated temperature on the strength and microstructural properties of high strength concretes (HSCs) containing ground pumice (GP), and blend of ground pumice and metakaolin (MK) mixture. Twelve different mixtures of HSCs containing GP and MK were produced, water-to-binder ratio was kept constant as 0.20. Hardened concrete specimens were exposed to 250 C, 500 C and 750 C elevated temperatures increased with a heating rate of 5 C/min.

Reactive Powder Concrete (RPC) is a type of ultra-high strength concrete. Due to its dense microstructure, is vulnerable to explosive spalling at elevated temperatures. Remarkable application of RPC in special structures throughout the world has drawn the attention to understand the performance of RPC at elevated temperatures, which has not been investigated extensively yet. The main objective of this work was to evaluate the performance of RPC at elevated temperatures from 200 C to 800 C, by obtaining residual mechanical properties after exposure.

High strength concrete has been used in situations where it may be exposed to elevated temperatures. Numerous authors have shown the significant contribution of polypropylene fibre to the spalling resistance of high strength concrete. This investigation develops some important data on the mechanical properties and microstructure of high strength concrete incorporating polypropylene fibre exposed to elevated temperature up to 200 -C.

The high temperatures of fires affect the physical and chemical properties of the concrete and thus influence its mechanical properties. This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation on the compressive strength at high temperatures of high-strength fibre concretes. The influence of the high temperatures on the physical and chemical changes of the concrete was also analysed by Thermo Gravimetric Analysis/Differential Thermal Analysis (TGA/DTA), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive Spectrometry (SEM/EDS).

The surface modification of engineering materials by laser beam scanning (LBS) allows the improvement of properties in terms of reduced wear, increased corrosion resistance, and better strength. In this study, the laser beam scan method was applied to produce an oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) structure on a zirconium metal surface. A recrystallized Zircaloy-4 alloy sheet with a thickness of 2 mm, and Y2O3 particles of 10 μm were selected for ODS treatment using LBS.

This paper presents an experimental investigation of the effect of heating temperature on microstructure and mechanical properties of the superheater steel (grade P22). The steel samples were cut from a new industrial pipe and heated to 500, 600 and 700 oC. The obtained results showed the distribution of ferrite and pearlite, a slight increase in the grain size and degradation of the strength as increasing the temperature.
