  • The speculum should be carefully positioned so the entire cervix is seen. If excess mucus or other secretions obscure the cervix, they should be gently removed using a proctoswab without disturbing the epithelium. Small amounts of blood will not interfere with cytologic evaluation, but large amounts, as occurs during menses, preclude cytologic interpretation by conventional Pap smear. This is considerably less of a problem when liquid based cytology is used.

  • Despite the different methods used, the results of the three countries are similar, especially concerning PM10 levels caused by road traffic. The differences in total PM10 can be explained by the fact that (a) the background concentration is higher in Central and Eastern Europe than in the Western parts of Europe and (b) for Switzerland, large areas at higher altitudes have significantly lower PM10 levels. Furthermore, the sulphate fraction of the background concentration may increase from Western to Eastern Europe, resulting in an increase of the non-traffic related PM10 fraction.

  • Standard IR systems can process queries such as “web NOT internet”, enabling users who are interested in arachnids to avoid documents about computing. The documents retrieved for such a query should be irrelevant to the negated query term. Most systems implement this by reprocessing results after retrieval to remove documents containing the unwanted string of letters. This paper describes and evaluates a theoretically motivated method for removing unwanted meanings directly from the original query in vector models, with the same vector negation operator as used in quantum logic. ...

In many cases though such movements still result in correct or almost correct sentences. In this paper, we will present a new evaluation measure which explicitly models block reordering as an edit operation. Our measure can be exactly calculated in quadratic time. Furthermore, we will show how some evaluation measures can be improved by the introduction of word-dependent substitution costs. ...
