Regarding fashions
-
This research is a visual inquiry into the fashions in 20th century kimono in which I have tried to take into account meaning and interpretation rather than a simple chronology of change. There is minimal information in English about kimono fashions during the 20th century, which has led to the assumption that kimono is now a traditional form of dress and not subject to style change.

This research commenced with the proposition the design of mature women’s fashion is not well understood and seems underrepresented in the Australian marketplace and media”. The objectives of the research were to firstly raise awareness of the issues confronting this mature consumer group and secondly challenge the conventional assumptions about the aesthetic viability of designing apparel for the mature women’s market.

Tomato grown during the main season (winter) causes a glut of produce in the market and its sale price is also very low. But the crop grown in rainy season has a better demand and is much remunerative for the farmer. Therefore, the present experiment was undertaken to develop and identify tomato hybrids well adapted to the rainy season. The experiment was conducted at the All India Co-ordinated Research Project on Vegetable Crops, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar.

The costume of our progenitors was chiefly remarkable for its extreme simplicity; and, as far as we can gather, no difference in design was made between the sexes. A few leaves entwined by the stalks, the feathers of birds, the bark of trees, or roughly-dressed skins of animals were probably regarded by beaux and belles of the Adamite period as beautiful and appropriate adornments for the body, and were followed by garments made from plaited grass, which was doubtless the origin of weaving, a process which is nothing more than the mechanical plaiting of hair, wool, flax, &c.

THE following pages are mainly compiled from certain letters by Miss Mary Clitherow, which have come into the editor's possession. They afford glimpses of the Court at that time, with reference not so much to public functions as to their Majesties' more private relations with persons honoured with their friendship.

Though it is probable that for a long time to come the mass of mankind in civilized countries will find it both necessary and advantageous to labor for wages, and to accept the condition of hired laborers (or, as it has absurdly become the fashion to say, employees), every thoughtful and kind-hearted person must regard with interest any device or plan which promises to enable at least the more intelligent, enterprising, and determined part of those who are not capitalists to become such, and to cease to labor for hire....

The troponin (Tn) complex is formed by TnC, TnI and TnT and is respon-sible for the calcium-dependent inhibition of muscle contraction. TnC and TnI interact in an antiparallel fashion in which the N domain of TnC binds in a calcium-dependent manner to the C domain of TnI, releasing the inhibitory effect of the latter on the actomyosin interaction. While the crys-tal structure of the core cardiac muscle troponin complex has been deter-mined, very little high resolution information is available regarding the skeletal muscle TnI–TnC complex. ...

Therefore, it is useful to use groups of consumers instead of countries as a basis for identifying international segments (Jain 1989). Within a segment and regarding a particular ―culture-independent‖ product category (e.g., fashion, cars, luxuries), consumer behaviors do not vary across cultures or countries (Dawar and Parker 1994). For example, information search and exchange can be regarded as ―universal‖ consumer behaviors and can be observed in all cultures (Dawar and Parker 1994; Murdock 1945).

The following brief memoirs of a beautiful, engaging, and, in many respects, highly gifted woman require little in the way of introduction. While we may trace same little negative disingenuousness in the writer, in regard to a due admission of her own failings, sufficient of uncoloured matter of fact remains to show the exposed situation of an unprotected beauty--or, what is worse, of a female of great personal and natural attraction, exposed to the gaze of libertine rank and fashion, under the mere nominal guardianship of a neglectful and profligate husband.

The like is true of the finished products. Modern consumers in great part supply their wants with commodities that conform to certain staple specifications of size, weight, and grade. The consumer (that is to say the vulgar consumer) furnishes his hose, his table, and his person with supplies of standard weight and measure, and he can to an appreciable degree specify his needs and his consumption in the notation of the standard gauge. As regards the mass of civilized mankind, the idiosyncrasies of the individual consumers are required to conform to the uniform gradations imposed...

Alexander Shuttleworth leaned back in the easy chair and drummed his fingers rhythmically on his stomach. 'You may call it cake,' he told his small audience, regarding the small saucer with the last few crumbs that sat on his lap, 'but it goes beyond cake. Call it Ultrasponge, Victoria Maximus, empress of icing sugar.' The ladies of Joan Redfern's WI group looked at him and then at each other nervously. A few giggled or laughed in a more civilised fashion. Alexander felt as if he was addressing a flock of sheep in hatpins. 'Well, Mr.

The role of financial regulation in influencing the development of corporate governance principles has become an important policy issue that has received little attention in the literature. To date, most research on corporate governance has addressed issues that affect companies and firms in the non-financial sector.

Ever since civilized man has had a literature he has apparently sought to make selections from it and thus put his favorite passages together in a compact and convenient form. Certain it is, at least, that to the Greeks, masters in all great arts, we owe this habit. They made such collections and named them, after their pleasant imaginative fashion, a gathering of flowers, or what we, borrowing their word, call an anthology. So to those austere souls who regard anthologies as a labor-saving contrivance for the benefit of persons who like a smattering of knowledge and are never...
