White-light coronagraphic images of Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) observed by SOHO/LASCO C2 have been used to estimate the density jump along the whole front of two CME-driven shocks. The two events are different in that the first one was a ‘‘radio-loud’’ fast CME, while the second one was a ‘‘radio quiet’’ slow CME. From the compression ratios inferred along the shock fronts, we estimated the Alfve´n Mach numbers for the general case of an oblique shock.

The objective of this book is to acquaint the reader with explosive driven pulsed power devices, theory and applications. This includes those devices that convert the chemical energy stored in high explosives into electrical energy and that use shock waves generated by the explosives to release the energy stored in ferromagnetic or ferroelectric materials in the form of electrical energy. The reader might well ask why one should use explosive driven pulsed power for any application, since it is inherently single shot in nature.

The rst seven variables contain information about the general state of the economy and help to identify monetary policy and capital inows shocks. The model includes both short-term and long-term interest rates. In our sample of countries short-term interest rates are largely controlled by central banks. Using movements in nominal short rates to identify monetary policy shocks is standard in VARs that study monetary policy (see eg Christiano et al (1999)). Long-term interest rates, on the other hand, tend to be driven by nancial market outcomes.
