  • The aim of this study is to obtain the copper-binding protein hydrolysate from the white leg shrimp head (WLSH) by-product using enzymatic hydrolysis. The outcome indicated that the copper-binding capacity (CBC) of the WLSH protein hydrolysate achieved the maximum value of 19.4±0.5 mg Cu2+/g protein with hydrolysis conditions including Flavourzyme preparation, pH 7.5, 50°C, the enzyme : substrate (E:S) ratio of 80 U/g protein and 5h of hydrolysis.

  • In the present study was investigated that, the influence of different feed additives viz., fish meal, shrimp head meal and soy flour on the breeding performance of goldfish. These three major ingredients were mixed in the feed at three different concentrations at 20, 30 and 40%. Totally, 15 numbers of goldfishes were stocked in 50 L capacity FRP tank for breeding. Every day the fishes were fed with 5% of the body weight.

  • Shrimp head waste has been used as raw materials for production of chitin and protein hydrolysate. In this study, a facile and efficient pressing method was developed to separate the solid and liquid phases from shrimp heads. The different solid/liquid ratios as well as the size of the solid component can be obtained easily by changing the pressing operating parameters. The solid fraction was used to prepare chitin and chitosan. This pressing method can save large amount of water and chemicals in the production of chitin and it can be used in the large-scale.

  • Carotenoprotein was extracted by a hydrolysis method using both inorganic and organic acids. Shrimp heads were firstly hydrolyzed by adding a 0.2% (w/v) hydrochloric acid solution at room temperature for an hour following by hydrolyzing with a 0.4% (v/w) formic acid solution for another 2 h at the same temperature. The obtained carotenoprotein consisted of high contents of protein (57.8 wt.%) and carotenoids (473.9 ppm). This method is facile and efficient for the extraction of carotenoprotein from other shrimp and crab wastes on a large scale.

  • This study demonstrates the detection of WSSV using primers designed from early genes and sequences the Indian isolates for homology analysis. Polymerase chain reaction was performed for the detection confirmation and the PCR products were cloned. Different organs such as gill, head soft tissue, heart tissue, intestine and tail tissue had been used for the PCR assay. Both genes were amplified at the size of 420 bp and 457 bp, respectively.
