Language assessment literacy has been conceptually and empirically addressed mostly by researchers from Europe, Australia, and China. Therefore, a universal conceptual framework of LAL needs voices from different stakeholders in various educational contexts. Regarding the LAL of language teachers, it has been revealed that it is mediated by personal factors and socio-cultural influences.

When teachers and students come from different cultures, many perplexities can arise. These can be due to different social positions of teachers and students in the two societies, to differences in expected teacher/student and student/student interaction, or to differences in the relevance of the curricula of the two societies (Hofstede). Therefore, it has been assumed that a teacher must be aware of socio-cultural differences to operate effectively in the classroom.

Terraced farming has contributed significantly to the economic development in mountainous regions. Additionally, it possesses cultural values and expresses the creativity of the native people in the locality. In today’s context, the preservation and sustainable development of terraced fields have become a matter of urgency, given their contributions to the preservation and promotion of cultural values, fixed cultivation and sedentarisation, environmental protection and socio-economic development.

It is argued that the theory of situated cognition together with dynamic systems theory can explain the core of artistic practice and aesthetic experience, and furthermore paves the way for an account of how artist and audience can meet via the artist’s work. The production and consumption of art is an embodied practice, firmly based in perception and action, and supported by features of the local, agent-centered and global, socio-cultural contexts.

That embodiment implies embeddedness is an insight from ecology: A physical body will always exist in a surrounding context (cf. Gibson 1979). Since cognition is embodied, it is as well embedded, which means that any type of cognitive process is adapted to and depends on the setting in which it occurs.

In line with this, TSC disagrees with theories that model cognition on conscious reasoning, as reflecting the ways thought processes are conceptu- alised in language. Instead, TSC states that cognition is ‘active’ in the sense that cognitive processes emerge in concrete situations of physical action and socio-cultural practices. In integrating conation and affect, cognition is driven by, on the one hand, the agent’s current needs and motivation and, on the other, the contingent, contextual elements that support immediate action.

While only lasting twenty minutes on average, fam- ily mealtimes are embedded in a social, cultural and eco- nomic context. The majority of the research conducted on family mealtimes refers to meals conducted in the evening at home. However, given the increasing trend to eat in restaurants, serve pre-prepared meals, and eat in the car (Sloan, 2006) we do not rule out other settings as an occasion for a family meal. The reports from which we draw include diversity in family structure, ethnicity, and socio-economic context.
