In this study, the Machine Learning (ML) approach has been adopted using Random Forest (RF) model to estimate the CBR of the soil based on 10 input parameters such as Plasticity Index (PI), Liquid Limit (LL), Silt Clay content (SC), Fine Sand content (FS), Coarse sand content (CS), Optimum Water Content (OWC), Organic content (O), Plastic Limit (PL), Gravel content (G), and Maximum Dry Density (MDD), which can be easily determined in the laboratory.

Light Gradient Boosting Machine is a new machine learning technique developed by Microsoft corporation which has been proposed in the present study to determine the CBR of stabilized expansive soils. Model performance of the ML model are evaluated by different criteria such as correlation coefficient R, root mean square error RMSE and mean absolute error MAE.

This paper describes the study of tunnel lining behaviors and ground surface settlement under tunneling process with a typical case study of twin tunnels excavation in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam.

This study shows the results of landslide susceptibility mapping for the southwest region of Quang Nam province using the Weights of Evidence (WoE) model. The input data consists of a landslide inventory and ten influencing factors, i.e., geology, distance to fault, elevation, relief amplitude, slope, aspect, rainfall, soil type, land use, and distance to road.

This study applies the GRU (Gated Recurrent Unit) model when selecting different values of batch-size, namely 16, 32, and 64, with varying epochs of 20, 50, 100, 150, and 200. The input data comprises observations collected by two GNSS CORS stations from the VNGEONET network, namely HYEN and CTHO, spanning from August 10, 2019, to March 18, 2022.

A hybrid analytical-numerical solution is proposed to solve the problem of a laterally loaded pile with a circular cross-section in multilayered soils. In the pile-soil model, the lateral load is located at the pile head including both lateral force and bending moment. The single pile is considered as a beam on elastic foundation while shear beams model the soil column below the pile toe.

The modulus reduction and damping curves represent the nonlinear behavior of soil under cyclic load. In the literature, those curves were produced from lab tests of soil at particular confining stresses. This study developed a set of parameters that can be used to normalize the modulus reduction and damping curves to be stress-independent.

This paper presents the upper bound limit analysis of a slope in cohesive-frictional soils using the node-based smoothed finite element method (NS-FEM). The soil slope was discretized as triangular elements and modeled as Mohr-Coulomb material with the associated flow rule.

This study utilized the GIS-based Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model to simulate the flow of Vu Gia - Thu Bon river basin at two hydrological stations - Nong Son and Thanh My, during the calibration period (2004 - 2010) and the verification period (2011 - 2015). The evaluation results of both periods, as measured by the NSE and R2 indexes, were found to be above 0.75.

Soil erosion is a naturally occurring process in mountainous areas that affects all landforms. Located in Central of Vietnam, in the tropical monsoon climate Da Nang City is characterized by more than 70 percentage of area with hilly and mountainous topography. This study is objective apply the Universal Soil Loss Equation (ULSE) model developed by Wischmeier and Smith (1978) integrating with remote sensing data and Geographical Information System (GIS) tool to evaluate soil erosion risk in Da Nang City, Vietnam.

The literal meaning of Hysteresis is to be lagged behind. In soil system, it is evident that the two soil moisture characteristic curves do not follow the exact same reversible path. As a result a hysteretic behaviour is experienced. Several causes may be attributed like non uniformity of pores, contact angle difference, entrapped air in pore space and the swelling and shrinking property of soil. To predict the hysteretic behaviour, several models defining the character were also suggested like Conceptual models and Empirical models.
